Hi, those of you interested in the fry development of A. hoplogenys, hold your fingers crossed. This is what they look like now: http://www.l-welse.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=12706 And just for reference: their spots truly are greenish (even more so in real life than in this picture), that...

Re: What is my catfish??
Stefano, they will NOT be infertile! Any Hypancistrus hybrid known so far (and where this has been documented) is perfectly fertile. This is going to be one of the big problems in Hypancistrus in the coming years.. IF you really need to sell them, make sure they are adequately labeled as hybrids! Th...

Re: What is my catfish??
Hi, I believe you have at least three different forms there. Number 1 appears to be L260 (not with absolute certainty, though). Number 2 and 3 are L411, and appear to both be males. Number 5 and 6 are wormline Hypancistrus, and I wouldn´t call you wrong if you named them L66 (but that goes with the ...

Re: What is my catfish??
Hi, first step would be: get ALL Hypancistrus you own out of the tank and take pictures of each individual (pictures taken from above). That would allow for some hints at ID (the wormline Hypancistrus will be difficult in any case and you won´t obtain a 100% answer), and also give an idea about thei...

Re: What is my catfish??
Hi,
the first two pictures show Hypancistrus sp. "L 411", the other wormline Hypancistrus are probably something like L66.
So, assuming you don´t have a second L411 and you are certain that it is involved in the breeding, then you are having hybrids in your tank.

Re: Travelling to Nuremberg early December
Hi, you can find Amazon Aquatics (http://www.amazon-aquatics.de/_html/aktuell/index.html) very close to Nuremberg. Honestly don´t know about Patrick´s English, but I guess it can´t hurt to try.. If you intend to take on the drive to Glaser (about 250km from Nuremberg), then I would suggest to also g...

Hi Milan,
no, I don´t think your fish is A. hoplogenys.
The spots in the unpaired fins should be distinctly larger than those on the body and fewer in number.

Hi,
Are you sure to have your business case closed?
In my experience the challenge is not so much to breed the fish, but to sell the offspring with at least a (very) small profit!

Ian,
thank you for your opinion.
Unfortunately there is no additional information from the exporter (who is located in Peru).
The only information I could obtain is that he claims it to be "a new species from Brazil".

Hi,
looking for an ID for this Corydoras:
Imported from Peru, but exporter claims they originate from Brazil.
My guess is C. pastazensis, but I´m not adamant on that one..

Re: So- L236 is now considered to be real?
Amin, for one, to put it bluntly: a fish "deserves" an L-Number once the editorial staff of DATZ deems it does. The question as to whether it is an average representative of the form / species does not necessarily factor into it. It is nothing more than a picture of a fish combined with a ...

Re: So- L236 is now considered to be real?
Hi, you confuse "species" with "L-Number". Within the limits of the L-Number-System, L 236 (as well as L 173, L 250 or even L 287) are very real. Whether 1) these are one-off individuals of more regularly colored species or 2) they are simply so rare (for whatever reason) that a ...

Re: L114,l600 or L427
Jim, Karstens comment regaring "validity" refers to the undeniable fact that DATZ has NOT YET issued the "L600" number. They are at L469! And since NO ONE else than DATZ can issue L-Numbers, there is no such thing as "L600". Hence it is not "valid". Cheers, Sa...

They most strongly remind me of Ancistrus sp. "Rio Ucayali"..

Re: Eggs Ancistrus l059 (hoplogenys
Hi Walter, I am still not 100% certain with your pictures, but strongly lean against A. hoplogenys. This is one of my semi-adult fish when I first introduced him into the tank, hence the extreme stress coloration (but that has since been the first and only time that I saw one with an erect dorsal..)...

Re: Eggs Ancistrus l059 (hoplogenys
Hi Walter, if we are thinking of the same importer, then they are unfortunately not always too accurate with their identifications (which I don´t blame on them: they generally have to go with the exporter´s IDs and wouldn´t even have the time to individually ID their imports). Why I am thinking they...

Re: Eggs Ancistrus l059 (hoplogenys
Walter, congrats if this really is L59. I have had a spawn of them, and found them difficult to raise. However: Looking at the pictures of the adults you provided I have some doubt that they indeed are L59. Could you perhaps provide a picture of one of them with the dorsal fin erect? That would give...
