Spectracanthicus zuanoni (L354) spawned!

So, it finally happened :d

Two days later I found they had spawned but it was a bit of a mess...

I took the eggs in the early morning and then rushed off to work. Later that day I cleaned up the egg mass and found there were still some good and fertile eggs.

I only feed Repashy, Soilent Green and Super Green mixed with a little bit of Morning Wood. And Bottom Scratcher and Grub Pie.
I raise the fry on the green formulas.

Parancistrus aurantiacus "Xanto"

Hi everybody! Thought it would be nice to share my breeding success of Parancistrus aurantiacus with you. I bought my first two fish in March 2017. Sadly about 6 months later I lost one of them.. And so my search for more specimens continued and I found a nice group of 4 about the same size as my si...

Awesome work Jools!
Pictures 5,6,7 and 8 are also L501. True Hypancistrus inspector doesn't show so much odonthodes, even when they are fully mature breeding males.

As I'm close to finally breeding my F1 Hypancistrus inspector now and I can finally see the morphological differences between male and female, I'll get them out into the photo tank and take shots for gender comparison ;)

Re: Sorting Hypancistrus inspector pics to the new L501

Hi Jac. Thanks for this. I'm surprised to learn that so many of the other pics would also L501 because they look much more spotted than your L501 in the CSG article. Cheers, Eric The diversity of Hypancistrus sp. L501 is huge. Not one spotted fish is identical to the other. That's what made it diff...

Re: Sorting Hypancistrus inspector pics to the new L501

Hi Eric, I can also help you with that and it's quite easy. There is no picture of a true Hypancistrus inspector on the cat-e-log.
The only two pictures that could be (but doesn't show the full fish) are the Caudal fin picture by Yann, and the Headshape picture, also by Yann. The rest are all L501.

You are certainly on the right track! My P. albivermis trap so many times without eggs I lost count. So for me perfectly common behavior. Keep at it, don't change anything! You're doing great!!! :-BD

Re: L471?

To me these look like . I read somewhere that Hypancistrus sp. L201, Hypancistrus contradens and Hypancistrus sp. L471 all belong to the same complex. L471 supposed to stay smaller but that is proven not to be always accurate.

Update on Hypancistrus inspector and Parancistrus aff. aurantiacus

Hi PC crew! Is it possible to update these two cat-e-log pages please? Hypancistrus inspector is different from Hypancistrus sp. "L102" and there is possibly even a third species involved which is currently being numbered by Rainer Stawikowski from Datz. In the latest CSG Journal there was...

About the topic fish, I had a nice little educating discusion about these fish with Daniel. He told me Rio Maranon and Rio Ucayali are the two main rivers in Peru. It is more likely this fish is from Rio Ucayali and a close match to Ancistrus "Rio Ucayali". But it seems to be very difficul...

Re: My new fish - Spectracanthicus zuanoni

I feed mine all sorts of formulas. I make up a tub of carnivore mix using Bottom scratcher, Grub Pie and sometimes add some Spawn&Grow to it. And I make a tub of herbivore mix using Morning Wood as a base, then add either Soilent Green or Super Green to it. It makes a nice solid feed if you use ...

Re: Hemiodontichthys acipenserinus advice

Hi Philippe31, Hemiodontichtys are indeed very slow fish. They walk like chameleons but can shoot away like lightning when trying to flee. They need a nice sandy bottom and some shaded area's, from (overhanging) wood for instance. They are indeed very sensitive to water conditions and don't do well ...

Re: My new fish - Spectracanthicus zuanoni

Hi Marc, I own a group of Spectracanthicus sp(l354) . I feed them Repashy every day as I find that the ingredients of the food is the best option for (wild caught) fish. I have yet to come across a fish that rejected Repashy, even newly imported fish take to Repashy instantly. The greens you feed ar...

Re: Sexing Hemiodontichtys acipensirus

It is just not that simple I guess ;-) A lot depends on their sexual activity, as males develop the larger mouth skirts to carry the eggs, but these flaps shrink again if they are not in season. I have a breeding group and many fry. In my experience these fish are very sensitive and they need time t...
