Re: Feeding Ancistrus Medusa L034
Good points Jac. Also, Repashy is fantastic food and if I didn't go away for work from time to time that's all I would use.

Re: Feeding Ancistrus Medusa L034
Hi MMurray, I have a group of adults (2 males, 5 females) and they seem to be doing well on either a mix of Repashy Bottom Scratcher and Soilent Green or JBF NovoTab and Hikari Algal wafers. To give you an idea of how much to feed, 4 Novotab and 2 Hikari Algal wafers each night seems to work well. T...

Re: L168 sexing
Hi proggster and Eric, I have some young fish as well that are almost sexable. I think I have a couple of females but the wait continues. The males seem pretty obvious when they get a little larger due to the extended pelvic fins as the pic shows. Eric - is there a paper that lumps the species toget...

Its great food so I stick with it. I also put it outside to set and as often as I can mix it up when the wife is out .

clown pleco
I assume based on the build and size that this fish must be a clown pleco.
I never realised they could be so orange.

Re: Could L201 "big spot" be L471?
Interesting post. In New Zealand we only have L201 and not a lot of them. However in amongst the imports I managed to get two fish with larger spots (left and right hand fish in the image). One of these has a longer snout. I have been told that the right hand fish looks like an L201 'big spot'. I am...

Panaqolus maccus vs. L448
I have been trying to work out if I have Panaqolus maccus or L448. Apparently true P . maccus are rare in the hobby. The following link seems to have some very good characters for telling the two apart (the number of stripes on the pectoral and pelvic fins). I am wondering if this might be worth add...

Re: Spawning report issues
Firstly great site and I really like the breeding reports. I recently added a breeding report for L114. However the report only allows for up to 100 hatching. This morning I removed well over 300 young from the males cave. I realise many plecos don't have over 100 young but it might be worth allowin...

Re: Peckoltia sp. "Rio Maicuru"
Hypancistrus sp(l270) is sometimes called the "Chocolate zebra pleco" and Hypancistrus debilittera is sometimes sold as the "Colombian zebra pleco." Neither of these fish look exactly like your photo, although the pattern of H. debilittera is reminiscent of your fish (but the co...

They are pretty hardy. The tail should heal quickly if it not stressed

Re: L114 Color Morphs
I am no expert but I think either L600 and L114 are part of a widespread species with different regional types or L600 and L114 are closely related but separate species. I guess genetics should set some light on the situation.

Re: L114 Color Morphs
Hi all, sorry to temporarily hijack this thread. The photo of the orange tailed L600 at the top of the post is my fish - now a healthy adult female L600. I always thought that we only had L114 in New Zealand so having an L600 is a nice surprise. Daniel and Jim here are my 3 pairs of leopard cactus p...

In my experience the orange tailed ones often end up with more spotted tails as they grow.

Re: Corydoras burgessi - sympatric species?
The description might be in an old Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine issue.
Axelrod, H.R. 1987. Two new species of catfishes (Siluriformes, Callichthyidae and Pimelodidae) from the rio Ununi, Amazonas, Brazil. Trop. Fish Hobby. Mag., 35(12):22-25.

Re: Raising baby Peppermints
thanks. Mine are ticking over alright. I've had a couple of batches so far but with 2 males and only one female I'll have to grow a few young out to get a decent colony. Good things take time
