Re: Lamontichthys sp. Colombia
Hi Erlend, Your Lamontichthys specimen are definately L. llanero . Mostly the dorsal fin is not filamentous extended. The species L. llanero has a broad distribution (http://www.loricariinae.com/L_llanero.htm). It reaches from Venezuela Llanos to Colombia. Sometimes the type from Colombia is called ...

Hi Tofi,
Can you please give some pictures with a closer view of genital papilla and surrounding plates?
Regarding the shown pictures I would say both specimen are males.

Pictures of Pseudohemiodon laticeps
Hi, Actually there is no correct picture of Pseudohemiodon laticeps inside Cat-eLog. All pictures shows P. platycephalus . The headshape P. laticeps at the 'rostrum' is a little bit concave, so there is a little 'nose' at the tip. At P. platycephalus this headshape is everywhere a little bit convex....

Hi Tofi,
But if you haven't, please take pictures of the genital papilla with surrounding plates. That is the only possibility for P. microps detemerining the sexes.

Re: Identification needed
Hi Bob, Your questions are not very easy to answer. I kept until today 4 species of Rineloricaria and arround 10 species of Hemiloricaria . Generally Rineloricaria species can be kept with lower temperatures than Hemiloricaria species. This is caused by the distribution area of both genera. While Ri...

Hi Racoll, No, it looks like a typical Pseudohemiodon species. C. cephalaspis has a different body shape, like a small head. Next to shape, the coloration of all described Crossoloricaria is very precisious. I know, there is no described species of the genus Pseudohemiodon in colombia. So I think it...

Hi,
This is definately a Pseudohemiodon species.
The bodyshape is similar to P. lamina but has a different coloration.
Do you know where they come from?
@mac: What do you expect with a shot of abdominal region?

Hi, No this clutch is not from Lamontichthys llanero . You can compare eggs and the whole clutch of L. llanero to those of any Sturisoma species. The shown clutch will be definately from one of both Loricaria species. Until now it is undeveloped and leaved, so I think your chance raising them is unf...

Hi, There will be a TUNZE NanoStream 2500 l/h for current and O2. I also have a TUNZE Stream 8500 l/h but I guess that wouldn't be adequate for such a small tank. Try it! I think a Tunze Stream with 8500l/h is not too much. Lamontichthys would love it - Pterosturisoma should do the same. Feeding wil...

Hi,
Suitable would be a tank with a size of 60cm x 60cm and a height of 25-30cm.
If you don't have a tank depth size of 60cm, you have to increase size of length.

Hi, I would prefer a species tank for this species. It doesn't need a large size, but with some specialities. P.microps feel best when there will be a strong current in the tank. Also they prefer a blank bottom without sand or gravel. You don't need any plants or similar, eventually large driftwood ...

You can distinguish Rineloricaria from lipbrooders easily by looking at the mouth. If you see a lot of fine and long mouth barbles the species will propably be a lipbrooder. There are some lipbrooder like Loricariichthys , Hemiodontichthys or Limatiulichthys with a large, but cohered mouth. In my op...
