It's a bandwidth thing. I have put a sequential option on the thumbnail pages for the reasons you mention. I wish to avoid people clicking (and this downloading) loads of image pages while just looking for one they want (if they do this then what use thumbnails?). I should check our bandwidth usage ...

You gotta thank Silurus for brokering use of these pictures, and I agree, they are spectacular.

Also, now the cat conv is behind us, I've got a LOAD of pics from India that I was saving until Silurus gave his talks.

Mods :: Hello and Goodbye

Well, sort of. A sort of goodbye: It's with something of a sense of loss that I'd like to announce that Yann has retired from the moderation team due to personal comittments. A long time contributor, he'll be missed and I know this was a hard decision for Yan to take. The good news is this really ap...

Jools, the amount of work you put into running this site is past amazing. Thank you once again for making and keeping this place so wonderful! It's my pleasure. I'm quite weird that way. :-) Actually it's really good having bug reports from the forum as I don't tend to notice them as quickly and wi...

I think it depends on the plants. My Ancistrus don't touch java fern or anubias, will eat amazon swords if hungry and will demolish things like cabomba. Maybe we should list what plants are safe with what genera rather than the other way around? Now that would be a good article... Anyway, we can't a...

It was more the fact that Planet is now some 12000 files strong, that I'm still very tired and that I'm adding content at breakneck speed. Technology allowed me to work on the site away from home, I guess that came with the price of a little complexity. Like me, the site appears to be bedded down ag...

Jaguar cats are auchenipterids. Comapring them to doradids is like comparing apples and oranges (actually, given the relationships between auchenipterids and doradids, that's more like comparing apples and pears). Of course they are, that's why I didn't say "unlike other doradids", albiet...

Most discus tanks are tall and the feeding regime tends to supply plenty of rich food for the Jaguars so I think the cardinals will be safe. While jags come out at night and cruise for food they (unlike Doradids) do this along surfaces and not in midwater generally. Also, they only tend to do this o...

On your average fish, L. heterodon is cream coloured and L. joselimaus is grey. L. heterodon has larger spots. To confuse all this there is also L314 which is grey but has the same size spots as L. heterodon! My standard disclaimer applies : when comparing spot sizes you have to compare fishes of th...

Re: L052 = Dekeyseria pulcher ?

I have found that some hobbyists identify L052 as Dekeyseria pulcher. Is it true? Yes, that's true. But not correct IMO. D. pulcher is a Rio Negro fish and L052 is a Colombian export. The whole issue of these fish is murky. Stick with the l numbers on these ones for a while, we have D. pictus and D...
