Re: Malaysian trumpet snails - any thoughts?

In soft water and with moderate feeding levels, mine do not multiply out of control and I feel they are a very positive thing. Their bioload is near-zero as they are just converting any left-over food into snail poo. It's no worse than the left-over food decaying on its own. Sent from my iPhone usin...

I would recommend Rare Aquatics - I've always had great healthy fish and excellent service from them.

Re: L244 colour variants?

I've been going on body shape, the hairyness of the pectoral fins, and the size of the pelvic fins, as in the species profile and the linked breeding report. But I might be wrong! I do hope that the fact that mine tolerate each other in a small tank might be a hopeful sign... Sent from my iPhone usi...

There are gold spotted commons, but they're not a stripy fish AFAIK.
I wouldn't put much trust in a stock list that lists assassin snails under the heading 'Amphibians'...

Re: How to prepare veggies for plecos?

That's interesting as I find exactly the same. I usually get organic courgette and they go for the skin first. However much I wash the non-organic, they don't eat the skin. I often microwave in a little tank water for half a minute, but if I go away for a weekend I'll leave it uncooked so it doesn't...

L244 colour variants?

Thanks Martin :) I'll do that from now on! Presumably on tapatalk I can just type or copy the HTML test version? Incidentally, when viewing on Tapatalk the link isn't resolved and the text immediately after the clog link doesn't appear. In this case 'might get more readers' is not there. http://img....

Re: L244 colour variants?

Thanks Jools for the quick response :)

I know these fish aren't that common in the hobby but I have fallen for them!

Must confess I haven't worked out how to do the species link thing but I'll work it out :)

Regards,
Paul

Re: L244 colour variants?

So, have I asked a question that is too difficult, or a question that is so dumb it doesn't deserve a response?

Anyone got ideas on colour variation in L244?

Yours Hopefully,
Paul

L244 colour variants?

I have two fish which were both sold as L244 and appear to match the published descriptions. They came from different shops at different times. Neither are fully grown, they are about 3" and 4" overall length. I'm not certain of sex but they are tolerating each other at the moment. My ques...

Re: What kind is this?

I've heard that it's always better to defrost frozen food before adding to the tank. Fish aren't good at feeling temperature, so they can end up eating the food while it's still frozen which is harmful to their insides and can even kill them.

Re: Need an ID on this pleco.

From Rio Takutu / Rio Tacutu we know of a Hypancistrus which is black with white spots; L404 . That makes it very likely that this is the fish in the jar :D Haakon Indeed, I figured that would be what it was! Like this? I saw a group of them for sale recently in my favourite fish shop :) ImageUploa...

Re: New L200 Stopped Eating

Food wise, I would agree with the above. My blue phantom loves courgette (aka zucchini) and always eats the green skin first, though he also eats the whole lot within 48 hours. Also red bell peppers get eaten completely leaving only the outer skin. He's also keen on pleco pellets but the other fish ...

Re: short barbels?

Keep them on smooth sand not gravel. Treat with Melafix. Keep a close eye for spreading bacterial infection. If all is well they should re-grow :)
