Re: 3 corys lost in 2 days (unsure where to post)

This could be off but I had a ornament explode its paint underneath it wiped an entire tank out before I found it (Never again putting a pets at home product in my tank even if its a gift). The fighters look stressed in the pictures as they appear to be showing bars. If you have new ornaments it mig...

Re: Albino Cory Grouping

The lone cory has never grown well but is still very arrow shaped in the body. Women will hate me for this but generally speaking the females I know of are normally a little wider at the hips and plumper even when not carrying eggs. Its possible not matured yet for some reason will keep an eye out w...

Albino Cory Grouping

Hi All, While back I bought 3 Albino Corys. Great little fish as I was trying to clean some sand I inherited (Since removed). Placed 2 of the group in another tank as the 3rd was not going to be quickly caught and decided to spare the stress as not a permanent move. All in the pair stayed in for abo...

Re: DIY Clay Spawning Caves. Instructions with Pics.

As this post is a little old has anyone else tried this and do the Caves alter the water in any way? Was looking at ordering a small cave for my little guy as he currently spawns in a ceramic arch that is far from ideal for him (He's very attached to it but sure he would like a better solution). Pur...

Auto Feeder Reviews

Hi All, Recently went away and had 3 different auto feeders in use. In order of cost Juwel auto feeder - £21 Fish Mate F14 - £17 RESUN AF2003 - £9 Overall my favourite was the Fish Mate F14 as it was easiest to setup and could take a mix of foods. Was also cheaper than allot of auto feeders so good ...

Re: Are Fish Capable of Feeling Pain?

From a completely non science view my answer would be yes fish feel pain.

Think of how fish act when in pain from poor water or disease they don't carry on as if nothing has happened they change.

Or if you have more aggressive fish think how one backs down when it gets hurt.

Juwel 125 Lights

Hi All, My 125 light went a while ago and have been looking for a decent budget solution. Have 2x interpet white LED lights on it for now. They are not ideal to show off the fish details as a little dim. Probably suits my loaches nicely but not everything else. Bulbs also broke so need a complete ki...

Re: Peaceful Snail Eaters (Pest Control Required)

Moved the loach today its not cut out for the snails more interested in the flake / wafers going in for the fry. Had a quick read on other threads looks like I will need to put the yoyo in for a bit when I get time. Other methods suggested are salt, chemicals and 3-5 loaches and simply don't have ro...

Re: Giant Bumblebees & Oscar

Hello, Personally don't know the sizes safe to mix them. If you don't want your fish rearranging things completely for you some measures that may help. Gravel separator a plastic mesh used for peat normally but can be used on gravel. This will allow you to place x layer of gravel and more on top the...

How To Reclaim A 2ft

This is my oldest tank and was planned to be redone fresh taking a few of the duller fish from my main tank to give it room for some brighter ones and some fresh ones. Then Jack and Jill went crazy making kids while I wasn't looking and even putting into a different tank didn't slow them down. Now i...

Quarantine Tank / Temp Home

Now I am pretty sure we all have one and its usually our smallest to make any amendments easy. Personally mine is my restart tank purchased by Mrs as I missed fish keeping a little 30 litre semi hexagon that over time has cost a fortune. 2x £35 light units over 10x £7 bulbs, £7 LED strip I got sick ...

Re: Hello from a Corydoras Compulsive Collector

Welcome, Sadly the hardest skill I find to learn is leaving things alone and waiting for them to happen. Have 3 albino's I'm waiting to spawn as I need a few to keep a 2ft that's been refitted for fry keeping in a hurry clean. Nice to see someone else loves the Corydora's they may not be the brighte...

Re: What do you think about electronic water testers?

Hello, Personally have 2 electronic meters for PH and total dissolved solids could use others such as nitrate and ammonia but so far unable to find budget versions. My guess would be simplicity and price of the liquid / tablet test kits. You fill a test tube drop in x tablets or drops and it shows y...

Re: Peaceful Snail Eaters (Pest Control Required)

For anyone interested the loach is doing fine, slowly making an impact on the snails but as he's small and have so many snails in that tank got his work cut out. Is leaving my baby fry alone as well which is a plus. Will try and grab a picture but when ever I go near tank with a camera he hides.

Re: Peaceful Snail Eaters (Pest Control Required)

Found at local fish shop a pygmy loach https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_loach Is supposed to eat snails and gets to a max of 2" so ideal for my smallest tank. If anyone is interested it cost £10 and so far has ignored the baby fry in the tank. Was a bit scared till I made a small slate cave ...

Re: Emergency Tank Repair Options!

Having looked around for a new tank I picked a 2nd hand one and it cost me dearly in repairs to kit. Perhaps I was just unlucky but a few Gems I am sure do exist. In the UK we have free cycle although largely smaller tanks come up on it you may be able to house your fish in smaller tank(s) if you ca...

Did a quick lookup on the Botia kubotai and found they are 15cm max but tend to stop at 10cm so good size for the tanks I want to use them in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botia_kubotai havent seen any in local shops but will keep an eye out as they appear to be peaceful small and very useful. Peaceful Snail Eaters (Pest Control Required)

Hi All, Like most people I have a excess number of snails in one tank and given time it will spread to others somehow. My main tank is kept in check by a Pakistani loach (Botia almorhae). While a great fish it does seem to annoy the others a bit and was purchased to just eat snails. It grew very qui...

Re: Gravel or sand?

Personally I like Quartz gravel seems to give me no issues. Once a month gravel clean not at same time as doing a filter clean. I may go back to sand for small fish as they cant make such a mess with it. Corys really grew fast on sand and loved filtering through it. Small test I did with a PH meter ...
