Re: This time ABNs definitely have spawned:)
80, 160 , 240 you get them idea. 80 eggs with each new spawn, x3 spawns =240? Wishful thinking. With this species it doesn't work that way, silly... Unless you mean the number of NEW eggs in each subsequent spawn, then yes! My first spawn had about 60 eggs, my sixth had well over 200 eggs (I couldn...

Re: This time ABNs definitely have spawned:)
Hi Teresa, Sorry for your loss. Jobro is right, just keep trying. The cave size may or may not be the issue, but if you have an extra cave of a different size (my ABNs spawned in both a 1-inch and a 1.5-inch diameter plastic pipe, capped at one end; they fit better together in the bigger cave, and e...

Re: Indigenous fish names for some cats and indigenous fishing practices
Yeah, I think I should change it so that if it's a catfish synonym, it should go to the Planet page. The script that drives this is shared with AR (and any other potential future order, family or genus specific site) and so I just need to ensure the behaviour is desired! I think, in this case, the ...

Re: If you're Corydoras paleatus, you can breathe out your butt
Now, I've seen bubbles rise, but I've always thought they were burps, not farts (released from the attic, not the basement, so to speak). I thought the fish gulped air and swallowed it into their swim bladders for gas exchange (although this gives me pause - do corys have swim bladders connected to ...

In this case yes. :-D. Actually, if you read through some older threads, you discover that I'm usually a devout lumper (esp. when it comes to similar L- and C-numbers being considered as unique)! LOL Hey, why is the lumper depicted as overweight and the splitter gaunt? That seems judgmental! And is ...

Re: I think these hybrids are the same, no need for a new entry
Hi Victor, Thanks for the extra info. I know literally nothing about these guys besides what I've seen and read on this site. Indeed they do look very similar (and @smitty, to answer your question, yes the coloration does change with age and size), so maybe the parent lineage is the same. But in the...

Re: I think these hybrids are the same, no need for a new entry
Hi Victor, I entered that hybrid as a new hybrid, because the info associated with the photo called hybrid(5) is Leiarius marmoratus x P. fasciatum , whereas hybrid(4) is supposedly Leiarius x P. tigrinum . Would you expect the hybrids to look much different starting with fasciatum instead of tigrin...

Yes that is a close. Also, I'm curious - Why does the CLOG link for Parauchenipterus galeatus redirect to the AquaticRepublic CLOG page instead of the PlanetCatfish CLOG page? (and in case you're wondering why I didn't correct the scientific name to Trachelyopterus galeatus , it was because I was qu...

Since this isn't specifically a catfish research paper, I won't place it in the Taxonomy & Science News forum. SInce it's about local people, the Travellers note book forum seems most appropriate. Carlos Alberto Batista Santos & Rômulo Romeu Nóbrega Alves. 2016. Ethnoichthyology of the indig...

Re: This time ABNs definitely have spawned:)
Unviable eggs will turn off color. If you have some Ramshorn snails, now is the time to add them to your eggs in the egg container/basket. :-) And don't worry so much about the egg rejection. Remember, your dad is a relatively new dad and he's going to screw up with his early broods. There are only ...

What do ambiacus fry look like? (Dang, probably not this)
Hi All, I have a community tank with several cory spp.: bronze Corydoras aeneus , Corydoras trilineatus , C141 , Corydoras ambiacus , and a lone female Scleromystax barbatus . I've never caught my ambiacus showing even the slightest courtship interest or behavior. My C141 spawned once before in a sp...

Re: Can anybody ID this plant please?
Hi All, Yes, after getting the name bladderwort I came to the same conclusion (at least to genus, :-)). I suppose the only downside to it in an aquarium is that it would consume some of microscopic organisms that would be good infusoria for juveniles. Otherwise, it seems harmless enough. Thanks ever...

Can anybody ID this plant please?
Hi All, I have a fine stringy plant growing among my Java moss. It looks like a fine pale green string, branched along its length, with small pale green balls on its side branches. I don't know if the balls are reproductive structures (that's what I think they are) or leaves. Can anyone ID it for me...

Re: Moss
I agree with all of the above. I keep a huge mass of java moss (and some stringy plant that I don't recognize) in my baby bristlenose tank. They don't eat it, but they hide in it, and I figure it helps (but only a little) with water quality.

Re: This time ABNs definitely have spawned:)
Your plan sounds okay - check the "tank" for expelled eggs. Of course it's okay to peek in to tube from time to time, but there is risk to that. If you stress the dad he might eject his eggs from the cave. But just looking around the tank is obviously less invasive than looking straight in...
