My Royal likes to chew on the stuff from the LFS screwed to the slate. I have no idea what type of wood it is, though. It surprises me they don't get splinters, though!

Plecs with Bichirs

There seems to be the idea that plecs will suck on bichirs. Is that true?

Mudskippers are AWESOME. I bought some at the LFS, but they all died shortly after (stress). I have not heard of any sources online for them. However, I do believe there is someone selling 'skippers on Aquabid right now... Mudskippers are actually not hard if you give them the right stuff. They even...

Well, the general appearance of a catfish is... there really isn't one. However, when restricting it down to American species, it gets much easier. Catfish are generally elongate in shape, and have a big head with a large mouth; catfish are predators and can swallow pretty big prey. Of course, being...

Goldfish fry stick to the wall too...

Fluff on eggs would be fungus; the eggs in that case would have died.

Awesome tank! How much water do you have to replace everyday? Is the humidity a problem?

I was thinking Merodontus tigrinus would be great in that tank. Someone can prove me wrong, but those M. tigrinus are cool fish!

That definitely isn't a real Common Plec; they mature at a size much larger than should be kept in a 10 gallon, if I'm not mistaken. What's even more odd is that you had fertilized eggs without the presence of a male. You'll probably have to provide more food than just the algae in your tank, veggie...

On somewhat if a tangent, how do you keep the humidity down from the evaporation of a large pond? I've heard it can cause problems.

I've heard of a number of times where catfish have passed the 20 year mark; they're a long-living group. Even cories can live over ten years.

By "break out" do you mean that they will jump out? I don't see any reason why this would be true (unless the tank was too small). Where did you hear that anyway? I heard it a while back. I don't remember where. Does anyone else have input? Experience with this happening? Or perhap...

Fact or fiction?

I have heard that shovelnose species will break out of a tank if their whiskers are always touching both sides of a tank. Is this true? :? I was just curious, is all.

I have two. I had to separate them for constant fighting. Then I had to take the one I left out of the community tank; it is now 3" longer than the other one because of eating all my tetras. They're pretty aggressive in my experience. :?

It is true that there aren't many of them. About half a year ago they were showing "Piranha: Wolves of the Water" or something with a title like that about (of course) piranhas. I do believe Jeff Corwin did one of his episodes in the Amazon, where he caught an arapaima to talk about it (it...

Yeah, you pretty much can't keep anything with a Red Tailed Catfish anyway. The Baltimore Aquarium has one, and its tankmates are a spare school of Cardinal Tetras.

SG_Eurystomus, to be more accurate, sharks have scales for teeth. I know it's pretty much saying the same thing, but the teeth are modified scales, not the other way around.

Techniques for keeping food away from hungrier fish?

I'm sure we all know that plecs are just a little slow to find food compared to most other fish (at least, this has been my experience). Recently my Horabagrus brachysoma has grown to a size where it can swallow algae wafers WHOLE. How do you guys guarantee your plec gets food? I'm thinking of just ...
