Re: 5 x Trachelyichthys exilis
New year and having had a little dig appears these would be okay to join my oil cats in a 3ft. Don't suppose if I pay for petrol a delivery could be arranged at a weekend to suit you? I'm next to the Dartford Toll / QE2 bridge post code starts DA1. Happy to pay via PayPal to assure you won't have a ...

Swiss tropicals also do them. Yes is 30ppi and it is the jet uplifts that I like.

Re: Fish Quality
Still on hunt but did go out again. Fish generally in better shape this time but just couldn't stomach the price being asked or why they were so white washed and all appeared to be male. I felt £8 each for non adult peppered corys was just to much. Couldn't see the tummies on the clown plecos so was...

Re: Anyone Done Peat and HMF filter combination
Well I went with complete over kill. The tanks have running a while and seem stable. Foam filters cleaned as needed. Water change 50% once a month and the white bags are JBL bionitratex packets. Fish seem happy colours are good. The big black blob on the smaller tank is a visible fish mate F14 auto ...

Fish Quality
I admit I am not the greatest at my fish keeping but have learned allot the hard way over the years. Lately I seem to be having a really hard time going to shops and actually buying anything (Yes this is odd as I have plenty of space for the right sized fish). My first issue is am looking to buy a g...

I have a few reasons for sticking close to home. Some stores I have know to only feed meaty foods to bulk catfish out.
Have you tried blood worm or something a bit less green? Long term not acceptable I know but might get them to eat.

Re: Refilling the ground floor tank from the 2 floors up
Yeah lessons learned will get it better next time. Have listed possible damaged items in case I have made life bad and need insurance. I refused laminate or carpets anywhere near tanks so have a rubber floor. Hoping the trim on the tank doesn't swell and split. Chances are damages will be small so n...

Refilling the ground floor tank from the 2 floors up
I persuaded my other half to let me have the bulk of my tanks in a room along one wall mainly and next to an on suite we don't use. Great only 1 tank not by my water preparation. On same side of the house so onto fountain pump out window down to the ground floor. Through the patio doors and into the...

I have used Fish mate F14 auto feeders in past as they have wheel sections to fill. Set them right and it can feed once a day for 10 days.

Re: Anyone Done Peat and HMF filter combination
Also now reading about people putting ceramic rings just behind the hmf sheet but can't find out why. Yes they provide a great home for bacteria but normal ceramic media has been an early stage of any external I have used not the end.
Doing allot of digging on this as only want to do it once.

Re: Anyone Done Peat and HMF filter combination
Thanks will sort out a clear strip to go down. Will start the mesh under it and then silicone it down together so the mesh can't shift over time. Thanks for the advice. The reason for wanting to switch is a much lower cleaning frequency. The bacteria benefit I am hoping will still exist in both Peat...

Re: Anyone Done Peat and HMF filter combination
It has 2mm holes in the plastic and is suitable for pond pot liners so shouldn't break down anytime soon. If my memory is right. The water is currently pretty much clear but it normally gets a 50% water change every month and a bucket or so every 2 weeks as I clean the filter. I try to avoid cleanin...

Re: Anyone Done Peat and HMF filter combination
It does tint the water. First few months were murder for it. Also reading that over should have provided a better description. Top layer rounded quartz about 2-3 cm thick. Deeper at the front of the tank and sides to prevent the peat from showing. Next a fine plastic mesh membrane with small holes f...

Anyone Done Peat and HMF filter combination
Okay so for a long time I have been doing my routine stuff and stuck to my schedule without any major issues. This week I tested my nitrates before a water change and it registered at 20 so decided to see what happens as my tanks are relatively low stock and have plants/peat in them. Now some may co...

Re: Hydor prime 10 problem
Try using it without any media or the hard plastic bends on a bucket. You may need to place the bucket on a chair. You may need to hold the hoses in place. If it performs well as it should put one part back at a time till the flow drops dramatically. I recommend putting media back last and in sectio...

You think it won't happen
Like most people with a tank that has a sand bottom I syphon it on a regular basis. I have one Dwarf mothball catfish in the tank and I hadn't seen it for a while. Not unexpected as they don't tend to show up. Several buckets later and still not seen and considering I am moving the remaining plants ...

Re: Hydor prime 10 problem
Hello, A quick check on the hydor website and it suggests 350* litres an hour but no explanation as to what the star is for. In my experience you get the max flow only without any media present and the hoses cut to the correct length. Also if you remove a spray bar if present can help. Basically nor...

Re: Using deep gravel and bacteria to control nitrogen
Well having had a check before wc was clear on tank with deeper gravel. It does occur to me from reading the paper posted, using bags designed to get that bacteria, the Peat plates / gravel and plants. That perhaps it is just the conditions required for a stable amount of that bacteria I am mimickin...

Re: Using deep gravel and bacteria to control nitrogen
Interesting read. I don't claim to know exactly what is going on in my tank just that it is working without additional media being required. I do know I see bubbles escape the gravel from time to time as the Cory's root around. I intend to add more plants before adding more fish. I also have a simil...

Re: Using deep gravel and bacteria to control nitrogen
I've been running this tank a while I do a water change 50% once a month with gravel clean. Filter cleaned every 2 weeks but not same time as water change. It has Peat plates covering most bottom with a plastic separator to keep it in. Is 2-3mm gravel rounded. The white test result was this tank the...

To add a minor amount of value I am unable to lift a bucket of water for 3 months and have 4 tanks with fish in. Re: New to Corydoras
Just an idea but how about a Dwarf Cory if concerned about bio load and number? My 3 betta's all ignored the Cory's. Preferred to sit up out the way. That said mixing fish sometimes depends on a fishes personality as some are so much more aggressive in nature than others. You do need to be closer to...
