Re: Adding fish to my aquarium, need help to choose!
Thanks for all the input I have decided to go and just buy some more tetras and then maybe add either a species of nannostomus or corydoras. When I went to the LFS to scout today I saw that they only had "champagne tetras" I suspect that is the same as Lemon Tetras but just some mild color...

Re: Adding fish to my aquarium, need help to choose!
I have had people telling me that apistogrammas sometimes are agressive towards plecos(stories about missing eyes etc, I don't know whetever it's true or not though) but else they are very tempting! Might be these stories are just that or very rare happenings. Ok will deffo check if any of those cor...

Adding fish to my aquarium, need help to choose!
I have been taking it slow, well for being me atleast :)) ,and now I feel like my pleco's are settled. I have always planned to add some tankmates sooner or later and I feel like the time is here. Been looking around some and simply have a hard time to find any fish I find suitable. Tank is a 65 gal...

Thanks for the reassuring words! Yes nice colors at that time but they vary so much, maybe that's just how the fish are?

L397 skinny or not?
Back again with the same questions in different costumes! :)) Anyway this is the L397 I have been a bit worried about before since it has looked somewhat pale and is not gaining size as fast the others, although it is growing. First time I see any of them at the glass(other than at night) I don't kn...

Thanks for all the suggestions! Think that I have decided what to do and it's a species tank with Chaetostoma of some kind, would be fun trying to make a little stream with rocks etc, picked the tank up yesterday(no feeling like an empty tank!)..

That sounds hopeful, although I am pretty confident you know what you are doing and I dont! I am browsing some right now and l134 might be an option? I do know where I might be able to get them so that's a plus. On the other hand L260 is one of the plecos on my short list. Suppose ill have some time...

Re: Any plecos I could keep a small group of in a 15 gallon aquarium?
The problem is that plecos are such waste producers. Even my 6 L104 produce a crazy amount of waste in a 29g(120l). Maybe it's to small, I am not totally against corydoras either which might be more realistic? Saw pics of your newest addition earlier and I would say you actually have around 5.5 l10...

Any plecos I could keep a small group of in a 15 gallon aquarium?
So I am going to fetch a small aquarium this weekend. The plan is to initially use it to quarantine some dither fish(+corys) that I want to add to my existing tank. But of course the mind wanders and I am now looking for a pair or possibly a group of some small pleco that might be able to thrive in ...

Re: Put a couple of L200s with my L397 group?
He says that they are "fully grown" so I guess that means the second but to be fair I don't know if he would be able to tell the difference and neither am I. I keep my l397 realtively cold, 26-27C, but maybe ill increase temp in the future. Regardless I have decided to say no and leave the...

Put a couple of L200s with my L397 group?
I have this acquaintance who wants to rehome two L200s in the 10-15cm range. It's quite tempting to take them since they, atleast lookswise, are among the coolest fish. Tank has been up for some months now and is a 65gal stocked with 6 smaller L397s(would these be in danger of getting outcompeted?)....

Oh, maybe I didn't make myself clear I just want to see them in their natural habitat, even if the murky waters might make that hard! :)) Especially interested in visiting spots so that I in the future could set up tanks to somewhat replicate them albeit for viewing purposes perhaps with less mud. A...

Travel and collect plecos in the wild?
Hello! Suppose I didn't really introduce myself on this site, just started some annoying threads about my L397(there are more of such threads to come =)) ), so let me correct that error! I am a fairly average dude from Sweden in my mid 30s, recently took up the hobby again after a ten year hiatus fo...

Interesting long reply TwoTankAdmin! So much info I have a hard time knowing what to reply so might be it's best to just thank for all the feedback! Re: Should I just go with no substrate?
Thanks for the input Jools, shane and dw! Re: Should I just go with no substrate?
I never really felt that no substrate tanks are a great idea. For me, their merits are cosmetic and owner-centric instead of my view of a decent aquarium that should be occupier-centric. That said, some folks want a perfectly clean tank rather than a natural one; in my experience, the merits are st...

Re: Should I just go with no substrate?
Obviously I wouldn't remove their hides? -_- I would just arrange it differently so that the bottom is more open but with vertical wood. My question was simply if barebottom is adviceable and I suspect it has it's merits since people do it? I have quite much filtration for what's in the tank but it ...

Should I just go with no substrate?
So I am back with another question, it's food related as usual haha, since I keep my plecos in my only aquarium and want it to look nice I try to remove as much poop as possible but I am just one man and can't possibly keep up :(( I consider to scale down the furnishing of the tank(honestly I don't ...

Ok I am back with more food related questions as the true newbie I am! Now it's not "how often" but rather "how much". Say I drop green beans in there, how much is a normal amount? I usually take like 1 bit each now but it seems they are done with that in a couple of hours so cou...

Re: How often should i provide food for my L397 group?
Affording your plecos the opportunity to get to the food before other community fish get to it , or before it gets down into the gravel is key. I keep my smaller plecos in bare bottom tanks without any other community fish. You will be able to see exactly how they are eating and be able to clean up...
