Ancistrus Claro?

Post by wijnands »

Bought these in the only shop in the country that stocks them and that has sold confirmed A. claro before.

Took a few pics in the bag while acclimatising. I can now also clearly see why these are called poop machines. In the shop I noticed that when viewed from above two were noticeably plumper than the third. The colour difference wasn't this pronounced in the shop where they had a more intense colour. They're now hanging onto the filter housing behind some plants. That thing has about 6 years of miscellaneous growth on it so it's probably an all you can eat buffet for them.

Anyway, would appreciate it if anyone can confirm these are Claro.

They definitely look like them. When they're small, it can sometimes be difficult to tell, but they do grow into their pattern rather quickly once they're established.

That's what I figured. Mouth shape.. lines on the head, spots on the body.. Colour difference puzzles me though.

Mouth shape is a good indicator with these. Combined with the pattern, they're A. claro.
