ID Please? For sale at LFS as butterfly pleco

Hi all,

This fish came in as a butterfly pleco, but clearly it's not that. The fish is about 50-60mm TL. The LFS allowed me to capture the fish for photos in their tank.

To me it is a Peckoltia, with the following species being possibilities (in order of likelihood IMHO, based on appearance):

• Peckoltia furcata
• Peckoltia sp(l205)
• Peckoltia brevis

So what do you think? Any of these? Something else? Alas, only one fish came in, so no chance for mates.

i lean towards brevis.

Brevis is the most-frequently owned of the three I was considering, but I was concerned that the head spots are too close together. I've never seen any of these live before, so I don't know what to look for.

Any other possibilities?

is a much better match. I often forget to consider Ancistomus when I see these small spotted plecos, even though the connection is obvious. Silly me.

Well, I won't be buying this fish, as nice as it is, because it's not part of my master plan. But I'm glad to uncover its ID, and I'll pass this info along to the LFS. Hopefully it will get a good home.
