Pleco ID

Post by Coach29 »

Picked this little one up at LFS. It was mixed in with a bunch of L104. Any help would be appreciated.

Definitely a Peckoltia with that combination of body stripes and facial spots. However, the fish looks very immature, and I would not trust myself to give a reliable ID of any of the spotty-faced/striped-bodied Peckoltia using that specimen.

Only one in the group? Dang lucky if you got it. Assuming it's bycatch within a recent order (vs. a leftover from an old order mixed into the L104 at the LFS), perhaps try to convince that LFS to place more orders for that fish and maybe more will come in. :-D

Cheers, Eric

Thanks Eric, I was hoping you would see the post. It stuck out like a sore thumb in the tank of small clowns. Salesman said it came in the L104 order. It’s always fun finding something odd or a missed identification. Got some really cool Chaetostoma a while back.

The rubberlips will change colors depending on substrate or rock color or mood. They will sometimes get phantom cross stripping when setting a pecking order for hides. Got bit by the catfish bug about 6 months ago and the amount to learn is a blast.

Thanks, Bob

That's a nice looking fish rightt derrr! (red neck voice). Any idea of what the most ideal parameters are for that fish? Are you looking to breed? I was searching.. and found another cool photo of them..

Given a combination of the by-catch, likeliehood of export and the rough ID you get from an young fish, I'd say the leading contender would be . Far from certain mind you, would need pics in 6 months+ time to be more sure?

Hi

I'm leaning towards Peckoltia lineola too, looks like one and is also the most likely having the origin in mind.
