Post by andy75 »

Was hoping any of you could help, in reconmending me a book on L numbers, ive had a good look and i am struggling to find one. I know theres a few out there but which one would help me the most? Im hoping to gain more information on breeding, tank set ups, filtration, and general L number buisness.

I highly recommend L-Catfishes by Ingo Seidel if you want a book written for hobbyists.

When the translation to English is done, I think the Mergus Catfish Atlas Vol 2 is the choice. However, I haven't seen anyone say it's in print yet.

Ingo Seidel's "Back to Nature L-catfish" would perhaps be a choice - Ingo is co-author of the Mergus Atlas too.

I'm sure that Catfish Atlas V. 2 will be announced pretty clearly on this site... More info from Steven Simpson Books:
here.

I can't find the back to nature book.

But very light on information on for example the keeping and breeding of the fish (at least if it's anything like the "all L-numbers" book).

Agreed Mats and at 50 pages it wouldn't do under a wonky chair; I've got a soft spot for it though it's a good place to start, covers the basics and has some lovely pics to boot, imo well worth 15 quid!

Yes, the Aqualog series is interesting, especially for the pictures!

I too recommend the guide to L-catfishes by Ingo Seidel, it has lots of valuable information! (no poster though  )

THe best books on L numbers in my opinion are both Wels Atlas pt 1 and pt 2

especially Pt 2, since this contains the Ancistrinae/Plecostominae, the "real pleco's" ; all the fancy L numbers.

the Loricaria, Sturisoma, Otocinclus etc are in pt 1
