Niger oto

Post by Silurus »

After going through the review of the Hisonotus from the laguna dos Patos system by Carvalho & Reis, it appears that the species commonly encountered in the trade (niger oto) is H. armatus and not H. leucofrenatus, based on the color pattern of the caudal fin.

Thanks for keeping us up to speed on this one.

Do you think the fish I have as leucofrenatus (=armatus) and the pne as LG2 are the same fish?:

So, one set of work out of this post is:
1. Create new species H. armatus
2. Move pictures from H. leucofrenatus to H. armatus.
3. Fill in fields fro H. armatus with relevant data from H. leucofrenatus (I think most "care", etc would be right for BOTH species).

What I don't know for sure is what to do with LG2, etc.

Mats,

Yes, agreed with the addition that:

LG2 belongs to H. armatus
Text from HH above is put in both entries in terms of ID and referencing the paper.
Registered keepers are moved to the new species.

So, renaming H. leucofrenatus to H. aramatus, and creating a new H. leucofrentatus may be a better option?
