Ancistrus claro avail in Sydney

Post by papwalker »

Noticed only 44 keepers for LDA08, not sure if everyone is sick of them or if they're a bit rare. Anyway, Aquarium Strathfield has a tank load of them. Maybe 20mm
I bought one for $12.50 and it's active and lively straight out of the bag.
Not an ad, just letting Sydneysiders or Australian keepers know.

These are indeed quite scarce

It strikes me that if these are indeed A.Claro it is a bargain!

Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

I read here that people are selling varieties of the as .

Given the demand, seems like the kind of thing that could happen in Aus.

I would check that they are indeed this species. Get some decent shots and post them to the "What is my catfish" forum.

P.S. this thread should be in the loricariid forum.

Some pics would be great before I travel down there, as has been stated shops will often advertise by a name they have come across either on purpose to improve sales or by accident if uninformed.

hmmm
You have me wondering now.
I don't have enough experience with cats to be sure myself.
I will try to get some pics. It's just the little bugger won't keep still long enough in a good spot. Normally you can only get 'belly' shots as he hangs on the glass.
I will head down to the shop and press him further and get some shots of his stock as his tank is more 'open' than mine and there are lots of them in the tank.

A belly shot showing the mouth would definitely be helpful. True claro have an unusual mouth shape compared to most Ancistrus species. The pic below, from the catelog, shows the underside of a female.

I hate to say it mate, but many places here will add a fancy name to anything to increase sales, and all they do is rip off the customer and make the catfish world just that much more confusing.

I would be taking both fish back and asking for a refund, since they were sold based on false information. To mix up a gibbicep with a longfin or veil tail bn is outrageous.
