Did you know fantastic help is an anagram of Planet Catfish? This forum is for those of you with pictures of your catfish who are looking for help identifying them. There are many here to help and a firm ID is the first step towards keeping your catfish in the best conditions.
The spots are more widely spaced on your new fish, so this may be S. ilebrevis after all. The only way to be 100% sure (measuring the relative length of gut) would kill the fish, though.
Thanks for your help. Can't find any pic's of this breed any where either. I'mg oing to move him as he is aggressive and while breeding probably wo'thappen for me I don't want any hybrids. He is nasty.
Like with your other recently described species, this is a "new species", so it's not got much data.
Photos sent to webmaster at planetcatfish dot com will probably be appreciated, and any data you can add to that can be posted in the "bugs and suggestions forum" (the reason I suggest that particular forum is that Jools and others are scanning that in particular for things that need "fixing" in the Cat-eLog or elsewhere, and when it's fixed, it goes to the "resolved" forum. In other forums, it may get lost and not updated!)
All of the above posts seem quite reasonable. I think it is unlikely that you'll get hybrids if these individuals were to stay together but moving an aggressor is a sensible move.
Do you have a side view photo of the fish picture top left in the trio? the head shape seemed a little out of character for the species we were discussing.
Real nice fish - all of them. keep us posted on your progress
3 more photos of the black. I would love to get him into the gallery if it is confirmed as a newer species. Is it better if I take photos in the water of him. May get a buddy to take better pictures if there is an interest as I am crappy at it. I'll get a couple of more of the one that was in the top left, RichardB
This is syno no. 3 ( top right in the net) which I assume is also a polli. I will get my friend over for some water shots if wanted.. Mine don't come out too well. Sorry about that.
