Help my filter pooped out

Post by Slerpy Monster »

My filter pooped out and I can't get one until tomorrow. Do you think my fish will be alright for over night until tomorrow afternoon. The water is clean and the test strips say the water is in good condition. AND I have no air pump
He is a Featherfin Squeaker Catfish, synodontis eupterus.

I take it you have actually checked that it's not as simple as a blockage in the filter, or something stuck in the impeller?

Don't feed the fish and if in doubt, make a 30% water change.

To increase the oxygen levels in the water, agitate the water with a big spoon or similar every now and again (yes, that will stress the fish, but at least they won't die from lack of oxygen - stuck between a rock and a hard place, you have to do something that hurts).

I would also suggest that you do something to fix the "no backup" situation - an airpump will help, having two filters is an even better situation [or all three!].

thanks so much that really helped. I got a new filter today, when I got home from work and the store I was so glad to see him swimming around. So now I know always have an extra filter.
