Corydoras melanistius "Surinam"
Saw some Corys labelled as this recently, although juveniles they look slightly different to Corydoras brevirostris and Corydoras melanistius. Are they perhaps a C-Number or just a locality type of the above 2 species? Can't get any pics, they're in a shop a fair way from me, if I go back it will be to BUY.
Thanks,
Shaun

Just bought another 5 under the same name, larger size then the last lot. There seem to be vaious differences on some individuals: the black mark sometimes extends to the top of the dorsal fin, the spotted pattern seem uniform on some and then irregular on others and like the spots are organized into "lines" on a few, the cadual fin has no pattern on some of them and has various spots and stripes on others.
So am I being overly picky? Should I wait until they all attain adult size before I try to place them into species groups? Are C. melanistius and C brevirostris found in the same localities?
Thanks,
Shaun.

Yes, there's quite an overlap (see individual species data sheet in Cat-eLog; category Distribution).Shaun wrote:Are C. melanistius and C brevirostris found in the same localities?
