Clown pleco's

Post by trapperj86 »

Hi,
I have a 29gal with 3 clown pleco's I want to breed. The pleco's are going to be the only fish in the tank.I have a bunch of drift wood and a couple slate caves. What else should I do to make it as natural as I can?I was thinking of adding a powerhead do they need/want a current? Also would adding 2 more clown plecos be ok?
Thanks

Why do you want to add more fish? Three should be sufficient as long as you have one male and one female in your group.

I'm not saying you can't add more fish to the tank, but I fail to see the point of doing so. Having more fish just causes extra problems: The males (assuming there are two or more) will potentially fight over "the best cave" rather than spawn with the female(s). Having more fish will cause more dirt to be generated, and if you knew what a week or so worth of "sawdust" looks like in my 50-gal tank, you wouldn't want any more than necessary.

If you want more fish in the tank, try some peaceful tetras or such.

They certainly don't seem to mind current.

A powerhead, or better yet, an external filter, would be a good idea, I think.
