Another "My Cats" problem.

I don't think this one has been discussed already. I did do a search before posting, honest! Anyway, this is what's happening ...
After posting to a forum topic, I casually clicked on the View My Cats species list (shown under my avatar and username) and this was the intriguing reply:

No valid user name

I don't know what this means. In the same topic, I clicked on Birger's "My Cats" and got to my list from his list. Is this what is supposed to happen?
Why can't I get to my list from my username?
It's not a big deal but it seems like a bug, and I'm curious.

Interesting - it works OK for other users, just not you. I think this is one that Jools will have to fix - it's probably not terribly hard to actually fix it.

I don't know why the name is capitalized on the "next to the post", but not when using the link from a Cat-eLog page...

So, does this mean my name should be uncapitalized in the second instance
(my_cats.php?task=keeper&username=Deb) and will you submit that as a request to be fixed?
Or is there more to it?

The name should match the name in the database, I suspect. The "submit a change request" is what you have done - I just did a bit more debugging to try to help Jools with the solution. I'm sure he will fix it as soon as he can - in the meantime, you can work around it yourself by using the name that matches the database - lower-case only in your case.

That's helpful investigation, thanks. Once I've got my computer at home up and running again (no roof, no computer, at least I have my car) I will sort it out. Shouldn't take too long.

It's fixed. It's a one off data error and, at least so I can get my head around it, here's an explanation.

When you create a my cats record, you are also set up with a contributor record that stores things like total number of species kept, total number of images contributed etc. However, if you contribute images BEFORE setting up any my cats, then I create a contributor record and add your images. I think that's what happened here and I set-up the contributor record as "Deb" as opposed to "deb". You then created some my cats records and the whole thing didn't join up because of the difference between "Deb" and "deb".

I changed the contributor record over to "deb" and it all appears to work now.

I, too, wondered why it was happening and that was the main reason I posted it as a bug - not any small inconvenience I might have experienced.
It's good to get it cleared up.
