Re: leiocassis hosii
Sorry to not help much, but I looked into the sources I know of, such as Fishbase, and there's no useful info there either.
I expect the size to be similar to the other species of Leiocassis - around 150-200mm SL, give or take a bit.
I found a few bits of info in Fishbase, but not related to any of your question. Type location, Reference and Distribution now contain some information (subject to Jools approval).

Re: leiocassis hosii
My experience with the genus Leiocassis as a whole is that they are fishes living in clear forest streams with a generous current and sandy bottom. They appear to be docile for most part (except for being slightly aggressive towards conspecifics) and I have seen some species as large as 250 mm.

Re: leiocassis hosii
well sounds like ive got it just about right then. my tank has a sand substrate with bog wood and a few long grass plants. 2x 1000lph externals and a big double airpump with 2 large stones.Silurus wrote:My experience with the genus Leiocassis as a whole is that they are fishes living in clear forest streams with a generous current and sandy bottom. Seeing as there is one single picture in the Cat-eLog, I'm sure Jools wouldn't mind a few new ones. Send to webmaster at planetcatfish dot com.

Re: leiocassis hosii
It seems to be a species that has only come to light recently & as far as i can remember has not been imported in the past, but it certainly is more uncommon than a lot of other cats, here in the uk anyway. Its a good looking fish so should be popular amongst catfish enthusiasts if they are available.
I look forward to seeing some more photos!

Re: leiocassis hosii
well ive descoverd he dont like the light. as soon as the light goes out and the tank is pitch black he comes out on the prowl. even with tank lights off and a lamp on in the room he still dosent come out. wether this is due to being new to the tank i dont know but looks like pictures are gunner be hard to get without sticking him in a small bare tank which to be honest i dont want to do.
hopefully he will settle in enough to venture out at dusk for food intime but as for now he found a place wedged behind the external out take and has been there ever since, but i did come down in the middle of the night and put the lamp on in the liveing room as saw him dash back to his hideing place, ive also seen him eat as blood worm drifted past his nose and i saw him eat it.
but if i can get some decent pics i will defo submit them.
so i send them to
[email protected] yes? im still useless on my computer lol.

Re: leiocassis hosii
Hi
Roy and I have found his specimens (he has 4) to be very nocturnal and will rarely venture out unless it is dark. Sometimes they will pop out of pipes etc to grab food. Try them on earthworms, they love them!

Re: leiocassis hosii
Leiocassis in general are a lot more light shy than most catsishes AFA my experiences go when keeping them as part of a group of mixed cats.
However if we are aiming to keep fish as best we can then we have to put up with their natural habits - i saw my small Lophio for the first time in a month last night.

Re: leiocassis hosii
Sorry to hear that ST
were there any visible marks on him? Were there any signs of being stressed by tankmates? How long had it been at the lfs & was it in good condition when you got it? (it can be tricky to fully appreciate i some of the elongate skinnier species).
I'd like to think we can understand the death & prevent it if you obtain a new specimen
