That's strange. I've just tried it with Firefox and it works. I'll try it on IE7 tomorrow. (Can't do it now because IE is disabled on our computers at work).Richard B wrote:Doh! I can't see the conformation code - just the little red X (IE7)

Hey,
I've just tried on IE7 - everything works properly Richard. Maybe you have some kind of script blocking few functions? Also it is worth to check internet options

Re: Join my U.K.-specific syno forum
hate to spoil the fun, lads, but I don't see much good coming from this.....
I'tll split the African-Catfish keepers community right down the middle and in the end will result in a very dead or dormant section here and many people gone.
wich is sad.
planetcatfish will go the way like the many cichlidfora. they're so spread out and there are so many that the entire global cichlid community is fractionized.
take for example the Cichlid Room Companion. a very good site; linked to Ad Konings, Mark Smith, Thomas Andersen, Pam Chin, Colby Dixon, Juan Michel Artigas Azas, you name it
big names in the cichlid world
the forum? about 1 post a day, often less.......wich is a bloody shame, and this is because the cichlid community has been smeared out over a zillion forums.
now will Planet Catfish go the same way? what's next? Asian Catfish forum? another pleco forum of wich there are already too many?
Corydoras forum? Pimelodidae forum?
nothing good will come of this.

I have to agree with Sid on this one!
I just got back from being away and was surprised to see this, we now have a great group on PC as far as the African forum goes and I hope that our British friends will not begin to leave us.

Re: Join my U.K.-specific syno forum
The main purpose of my forum is to fill a specific niche, namely prices and availability of synos and other African cats in the UK shops. For example, the 'looking for syno longirostris' thread on Planet Catfish has 63 posts, but can't have been of much interest to anyone outside the UK.
If I get any posts about identification, health, breeding, etc., unless it's something really obvious, I will refer the person to Planet Catfish or ScotCat because I don't have the expertise.
As for people leaving Planet Catfish, I certainly don't intend to, and I doubt anyone else will because of the limited scope of my forum, which is hardly likely to become a major competitor, and was never intended to be in the first place.
Maybe there are too many forums--they come and go--but we're talking about the internet here, and there's probably too much of everything. In the end it all comes down to survival of the fittest.

Obiously, you referred to questions. However, if someone spots an interesting Syno, and points out why this Syno is so interesting,it would be a pity of only a fraction of interested people read itChrysichthys wrote:The main purpose of my forum is to fill a specific niche, namely prices and availability of synos and other African cats in the UK shops. Survival of the fittest does sound better than it is. If a competitor starts to split the 'market' in half, and then both parts appear to be too small to survive, it could be both parties disappearAs for people leaving Planet Catfish, I certainly don't intend to, and I doubt anyone else will because of the limited scope of my forum, which is hardly likely to become a major competitor, and was never intended to be in the first place.

As not a UK resident, I will not subscribe. However, as I don't subscribe, I might end up not knowing I should have gone to the UK
Again, a pity
Therefore I can only agree with Sidguppy

PC will always be a first port-of-call for me!
Although it will mean a little extra work for me, i think most of my "syno" contributions will be duplicated as i'll post on both so nothing is missed by any interested parties.

Re: Join my U.K.-specific syno forum
That error message is not at your end - it is a limitation on the number of connections in the database on the server. What is causing that is a different matter.Richard B wrote:Chrysichthys - is there a problem with the site or is it my laptop? When i try to post i get ...

Edit: To clarify: It could simply be that the system is misconfigured [not allowing enough connections] or it could be that there's something wrong in the actual implementation so that connections to the database are not closed down when the connection is no longer needed - or some other such thing.

Re: Join my U.K.-specific syno forum
MatsP is right, the problem is at their end. I was having this trouble with it two weekends ago, but then from that Monday onwards it was OK, so I assumed they had dealt with it. All I can suggest at the moment is wait and try again. If it persists I'll see if I can get hold of their tech support.
LATER EDIT: Yes, it's doing this to me as well.
