Red lizard catfish?

Post by w00dpiller »

Hi, I was just hoping to know what my fish is. It was sold to me as a red lizard catfish but when I searched fot it in google, it was a whiptail catfish, and they were different! My "catfish" isn't actually red, has circular fins, shorter tail than whiptails and doesn't have a suckermouth. I was also wondering what to feed it, because it hasn't eaten yet (I bought it yesterday), and if it has any special needs. Thanks for any help.

This is no catfish, but a cyprinid. Search for Hoplomyzon or Gastromyzon (or maybe another name by now; they change rapidly).

Sorry Marc, Hoplomyzon is a catfish.

The fish in question looks like a Homaloptera to me.

Hi,

most probably this is a Homaloptera. Something like this:
http://www.loaches.com/species-index/ho ... a-tweediei

Hillstream Species, so provide high water flow and very good aeration. If it's H. tweedei or smithi they are carnivores that are hard to get to eat processed food. Mine only took live or frozen food. Watching them hunt living Daphnia is really cool.
Cheers,
