Temperature

Post by williams »

Dear all,

In Malta at the moment is very hot. The temperature of th aquarium is around 30 degrees celcius. Is that a too high temperature for fish? How can I lower the temperature?

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards

Hi,
What should i say that the teprature reaches 46 degrees C!(Not in the aquarium of course.I have a cooling machine in my fishroom)
30 degrees C are too much for certain fishes (like most corydoras and N.American cichlids) but its ok for some other(like diskus ) but although some fishes dont like it,they survive. The only thing to remember is that when the temprature rises the oxyzen content of the water decreases,so you should increase the aeration of your tank.
How can I lower the temperature?

Thanks Kostas,

I will try some of the solutions and see if the temp cools a bit. Tried putting ice but did not lower much the temp though some fish think they like to stand nearby. I have a problem at the moment. As I told you yesterday every other day I am finding a fish dead. This morning my female gappie died. Found it in the bottom upside down. Cannot understand. Tried them all. Yesterday the fish was ok, eating and everything, then this morning I found it dead. I will try the PH test hopefully this afternoon. I will buy the kit today. I was thinking it was lack of Oxygen but I doubt it very much, so maybe it is either the PH, or else the heat. The water seems ok, ok it may be a bit brown maybe because sometimes it gets a bit untidy but I do not beleive that is killing fish. Will change some water today too to see but as I told you I doubt it is unclenliness. Well I do not know. Hope to manage to solve the problem. Thanks
