Re: What's this?
Any clues?
It sorta reminds me of Austroglanis but the tail is too forked. Something from the Anchariidae?

Re: What's this?
This is not really a guessing game. I'm trying to figure out what exactly it is.
It's a sisorid, BTW (no, not Glyptothorax).

Re: What's this?
Shouldda been more clear HH - as it's you, i thought you were testing us with a new discovery that you knew what it was.
If it's a sisorid, i haven't got a clue as it's not similar to those i'm familiar with except Glyptothorax.....if there are half a dozen going spare though, i'll look after them for you

Re: What's this?
It's not a Pseudecheneis and the closest I can come to for now is a cross between Pseudolaguvia and Caelatoglanis.

Re: What's this?
I'm not really at a liberty to divulge where this fish was collected. Suffice to say, it's not where you would expect either Pseudolaguvia or Caelatoglanis.

Re: What's this?
Does it have a thoracic adhesive apparatus? I know you aren't at liberty to say exactly where it is from but are you able to say which continent/country?

Re: What's this?
It has an adhesive apparatus (no reason to compare it with the genera I mentioned otherwise).
This fish came from somewhere in South Asia, but as I already mentioned, not where one would expect either Caelatoglanis or Pseudolaguvia.

Re: What's this?
If from Borneo, I was wandering about Glyptosternum laak and Glyptosternum tiong of Popta, 1904 as the description of the pattern of one or all the types in Weber & de Beaufort matches the pattern in your image, but I see that you sorted this in 2008.
What about Glyptosternon nieuweenhuisi Vaillant, 1902? Has this been sorted out yet? I see Thomson & Page listed it as a Glyptothorax but did they check the types? Weber & de Beaufort listed this as a synonym of Glyptothorax major, along with the two species above, and they mention Vaillant's types and again the pattern seems to match your specimen. Obviously if not from Borneo then a non starter.

Re: What's this?
All of the names you mention are of Glyptothorax species and I have already discounted it being one (although the color pattern is reminiscent of G. callopterus/G. nieuwenhuisi).
Also, Borneo is not in South Asia. This term refers to the Indian subcontinent+Myanmar.

Ahh, sorry I was thinking South East Asia, it was the bit about it being from somewhere where you wouldnt expect a Pseudolaguvia or Caelatoglanis from that threw me.Silurus wrote: Also, Borneo is not in South Asia. This term refers to the Indian subcontinent+Myanmar.

Re: What's this?
We could not convince reviewers that it should be a separate genus, so it is being described as a new Pseudolaguvia.

Hi HH
Does this catfish come from river delta's or estuary's?
I was just thinking maybe it is similar in where it is found, like another sisorid
