cat-eLog: etymology of Hypostomus

Post by torbanite »

Most, if not all, Cat-eLog entries for have a bogus etymology for the genus along the lines of:
Amblydoras: From the Greek amblys, meaning blunt and doras, meaning skin (also a word commonly used in forming generic names for doradids); in reference to the non-serrated dorsal spine.
That doesn't sound right to me. ;-)

Good spot. I think this was caused by a "duplicate species ID" that caused a Amblydoras and Hypostomus to have the same name, and I (or someone else) posted a etymology entry for the amblydoras - which updated the wrong one of the two ID's, and it's genus was Hypostomus, so the genus etymology got clobbered.

I've submitted an update, so subject to Jools approval, it's sorted.
