Post by RSindberg »

I have this sort af Catfish. It's about 8 cm long now, but it just dosn't seem like the once i've been able to find around the net and i my books.

So you guys and girls are like my last hope.

And one from the other side:

The thing that confuces me, it that it has 2 of these 1-2 cm long thin thingies at the end of the tailfiin.

Any ideas, the closest guess right now is a Peckoltia Vittata , but i don't think it's a 100% match...:/

Something very closely related to LDA01 anyway (looks exactly the same, but the stripes on the nose are broader on LDA01); it's one of the smaller Panaque species.
I believe one or more of the ichthyologist-people here stated that Panaquolus is a junior synonym of Panaque.....

I had until recently the LDA01; quite some fish. Very nocturnal, eats loads of plants (!) but not that good at clearing out algae, prefers eating wood, shrimps, dwarflobsters (mine made short work on Cambarellus montezumae!), plantleaves (they made short work too of all the Anubias and Echinodorus in that tank), and peas etc.

A very hairy fish if you have adult males.

definitely not a Peckoltia.
Plan B should not automatically be twice as much explosives as Plan A

Well om danish, so im only in sweden like once a year... But thanks anyway...:D And the exact name is Rasmus Sindberg...;D

It's all good guesses you have. But the tail fin does'nt look like the once on my fish compared to the pictures. Mine have one 1-2 cm long string from each tailfinn tip. So i don't think it's the LDA01, og is mine just a variant of the LDA01??

To be frank, some pictures that appear on the site are a little "bit" different than your actual fish. I have through some degree of experience found out that some of these pl*cos DO have a short lyre-tail sticking out of the tailfin tips. They don't normally show up on some of the, if not most, pictures. After some time in very well maintained tanks some pl*cos grow their "lyretails" or their full tails. This is evident too when they are not battered or nipped by other fish. I believe that the other replies were correct on the LDA01.

Mike D.

Oki i sure will put it in my profile, sry...:D

Thaks to Mokmu and all u other peps, now it seems like the fish, called MalleX (In Denmark a catfish is called "Malle") has finally been identified. It share a tank with the following:

20 Paracheirodon Axelrodi
15-17 Brachydanio Rerio
5 Crossocheilus Oblongus
4 Botia Macracantha
2 Petitella Georgiae
3 Ancistrus Temminckii

So it surely got som company...
