L-18/47 ???
Has anybody heard of these fish? I have an opportunity to get large quantities of these...collected from the Sao Pelix area...on the Rio Xingu. They were descibed as having a gold seam around the entire fish (if I understood them right). They are priced close to regular L-18s...so I might take a chance. Any info or links to pics would be greatly appreciated!
Altimara is still flooded right now, as well as Manaus. Belem has started to dry out.

Re: L-18/47 ???
My guess would be its is a mixed collection of both species as they are both found in the xingu. If the size is good, and the price is right I say buy, buy, buy!

Re: L-18/47 ???
L47's are notoriosly difficult to keep alive in the long-term, so keep that in mind. I would imagine that acclimation would otherwise be similar to L18 or other baryancistrus, which is also difficult. Personally, they're decent looking fish, but definitely not the best that the Xingu has to offer.
Just my .02 anyway.

Re: L-18/47 ???
EDIT, can't apparently put links to individual pictures here. But anyway, just browse the catelog by L number and check out L47. There's a pic there of a fish with faint spots, and maybe that's what you'd get. It might explain the 18/47 listing.

L18 is a common golden nugget pleco:
L47 is a mango pleco:
They are nice looking fish, but like other people said, if the price is right and the size is good. But do the research, both plecos are not small species.

Re: L-18/47 ???
Hi , Belem cannot dry out , Manaus cannot dry out ,
These are big shipping ports
Sao Felix is higher up the Xingu than Altamira which have a low water season .
It is a harder place to get fish from .
The fish L18 and L47 come in a mixed box .(In my experience)
Granted the fish from the Higher headwaters show better colour in general .

Re: L-18/47 ???
Sojapat - I should've worded that differently. By drying out, I meant returning to normal water levels. Manaus has more water then thier previous record, set in 1953. It's 100 feet higher then thier normal dry season level. They mark the water level on a flagpole each year. They had to build makeshift bridges just to cross certain areas in town. And thier main harbor area is only accessable from 1 side right now. Treetops are all you can see, in areas that are normally beach area this time of the year. I'm pretty sure thier normal dry season should've started over a month ago.
Nvcichlids - Sure I need to vacate some. Check out the pics when I get them up. My camera is screwed up, so they won't be very good pics. They'll probably be around $10.

Nvcichlids - I see that you keep Altums (in your sig). I have 15 red faced altums (3" body size) coming in as well. But they'll be gone before you get back. I'll watch for them next time.

I am set with cich lids as long as you do not have any rare smaller species (south or central american species) dwarf pikes are always wanted herefishnut2 wrote:Nvcichlids - I see that you keep Altums (in your sig). Re: L-18/47 ???
Farid, your 'F to 'C calculation isn't right. The correct formula is C * 5 / 9 + 32. Quickly, you can use C * 2 - 10% + 30 (or 32) - so 30 * 2 = 60, -10% = 54. 54 + 32 = 86.
37.4'F is close to what temperature I like Coca-Cola to be, and would be good winder-temperature for some northern European types of fish.
