LFS list help

Post by L number Banana »

My saltwater friend sent me this list from his supplier. I'm having a bit of a time trying to figure out what each fish might actually be.
Any suggestions/corrections would be appreciated :)

Here's the list with my guesses after each entry.
Redtailed Catfish -?
Black Lancer Catfish - , possible? :beardy:
Bigfin Lancer Catfish - I wish M. bocourti but unlikely eh?
Frog Mouth Catfish -Chaca Chaca?
Thailand Glass Catfish - ?
Twin Catfish -?
Malaysia Glass Catfish - ?
Bornean Glass Catfish - or more likely ?
Banded Whiptail Catfish -?
Pearl Catfish - , I hope but unlikely?
Asian Sun Catfish - ?
Two Spot Catfish - ?
Golden Spotted Catfish -
Striped Catfish - ?
Striped Catfish-Albino - ?
Guinea Catfish ?
Ampiyacau's Dwarf Sucker Catfish - Ampiyacu Cory? Highly unlikely? Brochis or aspidora?
Dwarf Anchor Catfish - H.jerdoni or another Hara?
Marble Mini Stone Catfish - H.jerdoni or (unlikely?)
Electric Catfish -
Asian Red-tailed Catfish -
Royal Twig Catfish - Probably S.aureum?
Bumble Bee Catfish - maybe P. iheringi, less likely ?
Port Hoplo Catfish -

This fellow who supplied the list is amazing with corals and all things saltwater but isn't quite up on catfish...yet.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Port Hoplo is sp.

Striped catfish is probably or similar.

Royal twig catfish is definitely a , but which species is harder to say.

Seeing as the others are asian, the red-tail may well be , the Asian Red Tail - not that it matters much, as you probably don't want either from my understanding of your number and size of tanks.

The others that you have named I think are right, and I have no better answer to the ones you haven't given names to.

Thanks Mats,
I'm pleasantly surprised! I'm so used to having nothing available that I'm a bit overwhelmed by the choices.

I'm especially interested in , and but there's such a small number of keepers, I thought my guesses there might be somewhat wishful. Any idea why there are so few keepers of these fish? They're beautiful and sound like they're not too much trouble to set up for, even for a beginner.

I have a 45 gal that's sitting lonely in the basement, blissfully close to the water supply. Don't think A.vespa would like the same conditions as the Mystus but a species tank of any of them would be beautiful.

Dave Rinaldo:
Golden Spotted Catfish

How about Horabagrus brachysoma
Thanks Dave, Hmm, possibly but they also have "Asian Sun Catfish" that I thought might be that one.

Maybe it's a pleco? But as MatsP pointed out, they're mostly Asian fish so maybe not. Grr to common names...

There's an Ampiyacu in Peru.. & "Dwarf Sucker" == Otocinclus in my mind so maybe ?

Hmm, you may be closer there. I thought of the Ampiyacu cory but "sucker" would definitely NOT be a cory. I looked up Ampiyacu on the advanced search and there's only a few corys, a 'hoplo', and two 'suckers' that seem rare enough (not even a picture) that I'm guessing that it's not them either.
How frustrating, I'd love to order a few of this and that but then I'd hate to get stuck with a monster fish. My friend said he could bug the supplier for the proper names but it may just be the case where it's all F.acus and C.julii

I'm going to order a couple Sturisoma because I can't go wrong there at least. Will also get him to bug a bit about the possible and . I haven't even asked about the price yet, so I may not be getting anything and am running before I walk as usual.
