Interesting my cats observation....

Post by MatsP »

When I added a second population of Corydoras robineae, my personal picture first population was automatically added to the second population. Is this how it's meant to work? If so, wouldn't it be consistent to have the same behaviour when adding a picture to one population where there already exists a second poplulation (e.g. my Mystus mysticetus).

I'm even more confused about this matter now. I used to have a picture in my "first" Centromochlus perugiae population (from MA @ Bracknell), and the second population had no picture. Then I added a picture of the fish I got from Ralf Britz later on. Now, both populations have the same picture - the new picture....

Is this how it's supposed to work?

You can, at present, only store one picture for all populations. If you add a picture for population #2, it will just overwrite what is there. This is how it works.

But surely, in that case, it should also show the one picture for all populations - what I'm trying to say is that it should either be a picture per species or a picture per population - as it is now, it's sort of "worst of both worlds" - you don't (always) get a picture for all populations, but you also can't show a particular picture for each population, and (unless you actually understand how it works), it "randomly changes" when you update a population...

I've decided that the solution to this is to put the my cats ID in parenthesis at the end of the my cats image file. Of course, this is a big old change, but will fix this for all time.

No, but I am working on it now. About 8 affected files, images will be broken during implementation, will post again when complete.

Yes, I just received about 30 notices that an image is missing (where there is a number at the end of the image name).

Good work.

I'll have a play at recording a different picture for my different populations.

Although now we have a new small problem:
In my "my cats", there are some species showing "no image", because there are two populations of the same species, where they used to share the same image, now supposed to have different images - but there isn't one.

Edit: And there seem to be something still using the original form of "1" at the end, rather than population number, from my latest batch of e-mails.

Is there a difference between viewing your own and viewing someone elses My Cats? If I follow the link for "djtonyel" in the e-mail of missing pictures, I see a bunch of pictures with 1 at the end. If I click my link to "my cats", I see a couple missing with 27164 and such at the end.

Ok, a file hadn't uploaded. So that fixes the not displaying issue.

The multiple populations issue is only going to get fixed by uploading another image. There isn't a way I can cleverly sort that out (short of duplicating pics, but it's either a pic of one population or the other). So, fix there is for user to edit it. Quick check shows that I think you're the only person this affects?

How often does THAT happen ;)
The drawback of a good level of enthusiasm and experimental initiative, I suppose...
