Problem with Corydoras world?
Is anyone else having a problem with the Ian's Corydorasworld.com website? All I get is the following error code: This webpage is not available
The webpage at http://corydorasworld.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error.
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, but I know Ian is a mod here. Thanks,
Dave

Yes. Ian is experiencing some problems with his site. They are being addressed, but there is no word on when things will be sorted. I'm sure that Ian will appreciate your patience and understanding. - Frank

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
Ok, just wanted to be certain that someone was aware of the problem. That and I have some exciting news-I just found my first cory eggs this morning! It is only 3 eggs but I am excited none the less! The only problem is I have no idea who they belong to??? There are alot of possibilities...but I'm guessing either pygmaeus or axlerodi as both have been acting pretty frisky lately. Wish me luck!

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
Congrats, Dave. You should be able to tell those apart by egg-size. The C. pygmaeus being what one would expect - size-wise and C. axelrodi being much larger. Keep us posted. - Frankdconnors wrote:There are alot of possibilities...but I'm guessing either pygmaeus or axlerodi as both have been acting pretty frisky lately. Wish me luck! Dave

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
That is what I am wondering about...the eggs look much larger than I would think for pygmaeus. They were laid on a pvc tube on the bottom of the tank. Hopefully they will hatch-it looks like 2 of the 3 are viable. There are also reynoldsi and loretoensis in the tank. Hopefully time will tell. I am sooo excited! BTW, if it were axlerodi eggs it would be the ones I got from you Frank.
Thanks!
Dave

Suggest you split those up.dconnors wrote:There are also reynoldsi and loretoensis in the tank. Hopefully time will tell. I am sooo excited!
Cool. I've had great luck with that species. Hopefully you will, too. - FrankBTW, if it were axlerodi eggs it would be the ones I got from you Frank.

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
I have bred many different Corydoras species but I have a personal preference for the Dwarf species , especially C. hastatus.
I find that C. habrosus and C. pygmeus lay eggs very close to the size of larger species and C. hastatus eggs are considerably smaller.
I was quite surprised when I saw how large C. pygmeus eggs were.

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
"Large" is a relative term, that I, personally, would never assign to describe the eggs of C. pygmaeus. They are still, smaller than most all Cory eggs, of species that I have spawned, anyway. Your mileage may (but shouldn't) vary. lol. - Frankapistomaster wrote:I was quite surprised when I saw how large C. pygmeus eggs were.

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
Corydoras hastatus have produced the smallest sized eggs I have seen among the 3 dwarf species. I thought C. habrosus and C. pygmeus eggs were larger than my C. hastatus. C. habrosus produced the largest eggs among the 3 Dwarf Cory species I have raised. There are considerable egg size differences between the many Corydoras species.
I quit raising all but a few C. hastatus. I just keep a colony of C. hastatus going as they can be difficult to replace.

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
C. hastatus - the smallest eggs of the 3, C. pygmaeus - next size up and still quite small compared to most and C. habrosus - next up - but nothing small with those. - Frankapistomaster wrote:Corydoras hastatus have produced the smallest sized eggs I have seen among the 3 dwarf species. Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
The largest eggs of the 2 dwarf species, habrosus and pygmeus are relatively large for their species small size when compared with those of the larger, more average Corydoras, imo.
I don't mean to be argumentative. To me, the size of C. habrosus eggs seemed larger than I expected from such a small species. You are the Corydoras specialist, Frank, and I look to you for expert information.
I have never pretended to be an expert on Corydoras, I just raised a about a dozen different species for the experience. I only continue to keep and breed C. hastatus because they have a different habit than most Corydoras that I find interesting and because it took me many years of ordering them only to receive C. pygmeus time after time.

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
I'm no expert and I stated the C. habrosus eggs are the largest of the 3 and in my opinion, not an egg that I would refer to as small. No argument from me.apistomaster wrote:The largest eggs of the 2 dwarf species, habrosus and pygmeus are relatively large for their species small size when compared with those of the larger, more average Corydoras, imo. Nor do I and I'm not prepared to accept any of the blame for anyone starting that rumor. - FrankI have never pretended to be an expert on Corydoras,

Re: Problem with Corydoras world?
Frank,
Few others can rival your list of success with so many Corydoras species and the term, "expert' is used loosely.
Your experience is sufficient for most of us to consider you a good authority on breeding Corydoras.
You have specialized in Corys but I specialized in Discus for 4 decades only branching out to plecos about 6-7 years ago.
I have been a killiefish specialist for long periods of time over 4 decades and have raised well over 100 species so I have a lot of depth with them, too.
Whenever one spends that many years trying to understand the fish better one does acquire a great deal of experience in knowing what works and what doesn't. We can help those newer to these groups of fish by sharing our knowledge of what has worked for us thus saving others from pursuing dead ends. But the most valuable knowledge is that which one learns by applying many years of effort towards improving one's success rates.
