New/old Banjo video

Post by L number Banana »

Found this on the old camera. Kill the sound if you don't want to hear my TV (sorry!)

Tank is totally fixed up now and replanted, more coconut caves, heater floats free so no synos get too close. The little pots are gone after the cory got stuck in one in the other tank. Same cats are still in that tank plus the L401 in his cave off camera. Banjos still have no issues coming right out to the front for feeding. One banjo is still fat compared to the other two, same for the Euptera, one fat two thinner. The Farlowella in the vid is still on a strictly shrimp pellet diet while the others are vegetarians. No great changes on the catfish front.

The poor tetra floating by didn't make it though - was in bad shape for a few days and didn't recover, the rest all all good. :-(

Nice to be back!

my banjos just do that in the early morning (feed with lights on/sunlights) or if I put a nice pellet of food in front of them or when the lights are out at the evening. I used to have mine in gravel like that. But I now use silica sand, which is the best for them. They don't need to hide behind anything, the burrow themselves in the foreground of the aquarium.

Sometimes I removed them from the sand for people to see the fish or if they can find it and people are like: @-) it is an amazing fish, it is a fish that could feature in a TV documentary.

lol! Yes they are the weirdest little critters. They seem to be very active most of the time, sometimes I just have to look harder to find them but I can usually recognize the little eyeballs peeking out of the sand.

That tank has been redone. In the video there was both silica sand and round pebbles. You can see from the close ups that their barbels are still nice and beautiful so the pebble are not sharp at all. The redone tank has the same. Maybe they hang out up front in the daytime because they blend in with the pebbles?? Even with the extra sand added, they still don't really hide much.

You know where most of the silica sand in that tank ends up? The Kuhli Loaches round it up and pile it into the smallest coconut! :-O
I found that out when I cleaned the tank one time and when I lifted the coconut it looked like one of those salt storage bins. They had it piled up to fill about half way! All nice white sand, not a pebble in the whole pile.

I put an extra cup of sand in the new set-up....sand hoarders.... :-!

And you're right, they would make a good subject for a TV doc.

eheh. I also know where the fish is, because of its eyes and whiskers and also the tip of its tail!!!

but people that are unaware of the fish or its behavior will be certainly surprised.
