Re: Albino bristlenose fry
Congrats! I just removed my 1st batch of abn fry last week. They are great parents. The most I ever saw was just one fry till I lifted the flower pot coaster. I managed to net 17, my Labs ate a bunch.

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
Having only two aggressive fish in the tank with the bristlenoses I hope to leave them alone. My flagfish don't bother other fry.

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
In my life time I have raised everything from cattle ,hogs, rabbits, dogs and reptiles and I have never seen anything guard a nest like this male bristlenose. It has not been out of the nest cave since it was formed .He has got to be getting hungry by now.
The fry are getting bigger each day and should be about ready to come out and see the world

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
Thats how I figured mine was nesting. At feeding time he was always out after food. He's not shy at all. Then he was always tail out in his cave or sideways blocking the opening for along time.crkinney wrote:In my life time I have raised everything from cattle ,hogs, rabbits, dogs and reptiles and I have never seen anything guard a nest like this male bristlenose. It has not been out of the nest cave since it was formed .He has got to be getting hungry by now.

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
My fish is camped out in a hole that goes tru a log .He stays at one end and waves his tail and keeps a steady flow of water across the fry.I still have not seen him out of the nest .The little guys are swimming all over in side but have yet to venture out side. Mom don't seem to give a hoot[not woot] what they do.

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
I've not had a bristlenose male eat the fry in the 6 years or so that I've been keeping them. But that's not to say "it hasn't ever happened every in some tank in the world", if you see what I mean.
Is it just the male and the fry in the tank, or are there other fish in there too?

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
Other fish in the tank are Three hoplos, five corys, six small minnows and two flag fish. The minnows breed all the time and don't seam to loose fry.

Re: Albino bristlenose fry
The minnow fry probably stay closer to the surface? If so, I'd expect the hoplo may be the culprit... It's obviously just a guess, as I don't have the ability to see what is going on in your tank...
