Parauchenoglanis balayi and monkei

Post by jippo »

According the Revision of Parauchenoglanis P. monkei is synonym for P. guttatus.

At Cat-eLog photo #3 of Parauchenoglanis balayi looks more P. altipinnis.

I think we have been through this before...checklist of Catfishes(2007) still has P.monkei as valid as does fishbase...I can not remember off hand why though.

I do not see it being P.altipinnis...for me it seems P.altipinnis is one of the easier to ID...mind you the pic you mention does have sort of a high dorsal but not overly high.

Catalog of fishes still have monkei separate from balayi. CoF is usually quite quick at updating things - but it could of course be a "missed that one".

I'm moving this to resolved, as I don't believe there is anything that needs to be done here.
