New Tank Species Help

Post by Neo »

Hi guys I came accross a Juwel Lido 120 for pretty cheap yesterday and figured I would buy it and set up another tank

I will overfilter like the others with a fluval u4 internal and eheim 2073 external etc etc but I am wondering whether I should try another species in it or just have more Zebras?

I have for now in my trigon 190 10x L46, in my rio 125 i have 10x L134 (4 are going to a friend soon, so there will only be 6)

I was thinking on perhaps getting a group of 3-5 L270's or perhaps something else, failing that some more L46

Any suggestions as to what species to get or would it be best for more L46? or even used as a fry grow out tank should my fish ever spawn lol?

Thanks in advance :)

Rob

Rob,
What size, dimensions and gallons, is a Juwel Lido 120?

I have had L260 cross with L046. I would suggest staying away from Hypancistrus and look at maybe Peckoltia. Having said that I think they would be best on their own. You could always add some other kind of dither fish to consume the upper part of the tank.

"best" is one of those words that you have to have some reference to compare two options. And what you are trying to achieve... What is your goal?

I personally prefer to keep more different species in different tanks than many tanks of the same species. But it depends on what your goal is overall. I love Leporacanthicus, but I don't think even the smallest Leporacanthicus will have enough space in a Lido120. If it was something like a RIO240 or possibly a RIO180, I'd recommend Leporacanthicus joselimai (L263) - they are very nice looking fish, and should be possible to breed if you look after them well.

L270 is a nice little fish, as would L260 be, if you could find some. There are several Peckoltia that would do nicely in there, or some Ancistrus, perhaps?

I only keep the 2 species for now the L46 and L134 so thought I should perhaps start keeping another group of something hence suggesting the L270, I plan on spawning my L46 again and hope the L134 and whatever else I may get would do the same to be honest, no so much for financial gain as I would rather fry exchange but as I enjoy it and it keeps the species alive

Surely another Rio Xingu species would be a great choice then...
