"Pending updates" listing on Cat-eLog datasheet?

How about adding a "There is an update by <username> from <date> pending for this species" at the bottom of the datasheet.

Shouldn't be hard to do, I would have thought...

Yes! This is also something I have thought about but would it discourage input? What is the issue if two submissions sent?

If we did add it, then the warning should be next to the edit link? Or just disable the edit link?

Definitely not DISABLE the edit link - I quite often submit to submissions in a row for a species, because I realize I've missed something out (or made a mistake).

I don't think it's a real problem with "preventing updates from being made" - unless you are VERY tardy with accepting the updates...

Of course, if we indicate each field that is present in the update, then that may help! But that would also make it a lot harder to implement... ;)

Yes, something like "MatsP submitted an update on DD-MMM-YYYY", and we'd get that by selecting on species id in the submissions table and not yet completed, sorted on ascending date-order. Should be a relatively easy change, really.

Of course, not sure where it should appear - and is it shown only for people with editing rights, or everyone (logged in, or even anonymous/bots)?

It should be within the edit button code and thus only visible to those with edit rights, text to the right of the button.

One action that might help would be to post a "Men at Work" notice on the forum. For example, Mats could post that he is plugging away at Chaetostoma for a few days.

That way others would see his post and either tackle another group of fishes or hold off until he completes what he is doing. Once Mats is finished he would just move his notice to "resolved issues."

This would also provide a "marker," since these resolved threads could be searched easily, for the last time a genus (or family) was given a good scrubbing.

That might have legs. In terms of metrics, we can measure cat-elog data submissions and also image submissions to give a total. But does that mean I have to pay you something?
