What are these

Post by begone »

I have two catfish that my brother had bought, and he said they were "Black Shark Catfish". I can't find anything about these fish. He gave them to me because they attacked and kill two quarter size angelfish and injured his Pl*co. I put them in me Oscar tank and all is well. They are, obviously, all black, fatter full bodied and mildly aggresive. Any ideas or help where to look on what they actually are.

They look alot like the Mystus Leucophasis, but they aren't upside down nor are their "wiskers" as long.

If not a picture some more information might help:
What size are they now?
where abouts do they hide or swim? (middle, bottom)
Are they all black, no other markings?
what are they eating apart from other fish?

As you can tell i'm running out of questions but anything that might help people help you is worth mentioning.

Hey guys thanks for all the help but I finally got my wife to get online and she figured out what they are. The mystery fish are "Black Labeo", the great black shark, scientifically- Labeo Chysophekadion.
Again thank you everyone.

@mick they arent catfishes they are cyprinids. They look like the redtailed "labeo"(Epalzeorhynchus bicolor) but just jetblack to grey.
1 inch = 2.54 cm
1 foot = 33.xx cm something like that im too lazy to look it up...
cheers

24"

and LOTS and LOTS of character too!!

definitely a fish for the 250G tank, with sturdy companions, not for the faint hearted.

but the ARE very pretty when mature, exchanging the black color for a bronze, and with red spots on the scales.

adult Morulius, notice the high, humplike back. THIS is a carpsized beast!!

You'll find these guys just will NOT play nicely with conspecifics as they grow. African cichlids have nothing on aggression when it comes to them. Good luck!

And they have a tendency to jump out off the tank, even though there was a glass cover on, never did figure out how mine done that.
