I broke the Cat-eLog

Post by Birger »

Was finally moving some hybrids around in the Cat-eLog in Synodontis
Jippo and I have been working on these...

greshoffi - moved 5,7,11 to sp.hybrid(1)

ocellifer- moved 6,13,14 to new entry sp.hybrid(8)

ornatipinnis-moved 3,4,6,7,8 to new entry sp.hybrid(9)

Was all going well....I think things got confused when I reordered the ones I moved to sp.hybrid(9)

To me the Cat-eLog looks quite dead.

Mochokidae on the drop down cat-elog menu does not work.

However, I can open specific pages from fish in that family like http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=278

None of the images work here: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... es_id=4397

Nor here: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... es_id=4396

That's all I could find from what Birger mentioned. Cheers.

I couldn't enter the cat-elog by choosing a family in the pop up that shows up when you go over the tab cat-elog above each page. Every time I tried it I got a HTTP 404 notification. Now it works normally.

So, the problem with the family links from the catelog dropdown in the top menu/nav bar is fixed. Amazing it actually worked on the old server and did so because of a security loophole. Security tighter on new server = it was broke. So, I've re-written it correctly.

I am not yet sure how it caused the move image problem.

Birger, did you only re-order S. hybrid sp(9) or all of them?

Only S. hybrid sp(9)

This is strange as well...I moved 5,7,11 from greshoffi to hybrid sp(1)but they are back in greshoffi.

I moved 6,13,14 from ocellifer to hybrid sp(8)it left 6 in ocellifer but it took 12,13,14 (12 was my own humeral shot of ocellifer).

Ornatipinnis is messed up too and those were moved to S.hybrid sp(9).

To move the images I used the feature that allows you to checkmark and move more than one from one species to another.

Hi Birger,

First step of fixing this is moving in the ones we were sure are hybrids. I am moving from a recent backup but it might not be 100% right. So, first of all, can you check and confirm if the images in

are as you wished? If not, which ones are not right?

Cheers,

Jools

Pictures and captions are a little off :confusion-scratchheadyellow: .
Not sure how else to do it so I am going through image by image one set at a time as they are now...this is greshoffi and Hybrid(1)
I did not try to move anything myself because many of the image contributers are mixed up...

In greshoffi

#1-okay

2-okay

3-okay

4-okay

5-should be in sp.hybrid(1) and is Christian Hauzar's image

6-okay

7-should be in sp.hybrid(1) and is Christian Hauzar's image

8-okay

9-caption is wrong this is Petteri's photo(Jippo)

10-okay

11-should be in sp.hybrid(1) and is Christian Hauzar's image

12-I think this is Tristan Jones photo and the caption belongs to a completely missing photo of a albino greshoffi that was Petteri's...I have this photo if you can not find

in sp.hybrid(1)

#1 to 7 is good

#8-is a greshoffi picture that is also in greshoffi so can be discarded...the caption belongs to a Christian Hauzar picture that needs to come over from greshoffi.

#9-is a greshoffi picture that is also in greshoffi so can be discarded...the caption belongs to a Christian Hauzar picture that needs to come over from greshoffi.

#10-is a greshoffi picture that is also in greshoffi so can be discarded...the caption belongs to a Christian Hauzar picture that needs to come over from greshoffi.

Post by Birger »

this is ocellifer and sp.hybrid(8)

ocellifer

#1- to 5 is okay

#6-should be moved to sp.hybrid(8)

#7-okay

#8-is a JJ photo

#9-belongs to caption that is with #8

#10-photo belongs with caption with #9

#11photo belongs with caption with #10

there is a humeral photo missing...it is my own so I can reinstall when all is straight

sp.hybrid(8)

#1- okay

#2- is an ocellifer that is still in ocellifer(#3) can be discarded and replaced with #6 from ocellifer

#3-okay

ornatipinnis and sp.hybrid(9)

ornatipinnis

#1-okay

2-okay

3-move to sp.hybrid(9)

4-move image to sp.hybrid(9)...caption belongs to a photo from Tom Vigliotta/Cornell University Museum of Vertebrates...whichis on a black background(I have this)

5-I think danny Blundel's photo but caption wrong

#6-is in sp.hybrid(9) and can be discarded

#7-is in sp.hybrid(9) and can be discarded

sp.hybrid(9)

#1-okay

#2-Discard

#3-okay but caption wrong (JJ's or your own photo maybe)and the image that goes with the caption is completely missing which is a snub nosed hybrid(not a huge loss)

#4-move back to ornatipinnis

#5-move back to ornatipinnis

Birger,

Thanks for this, however it is getting too complex. The issue we have is twofold.

a) During the server move, when you carried out these changes, you altered the new database (image captions, photographer details etc) but the old server files (the actual images) due to nameserver replication issues globally.

b) I restored images from a backup but I find that my backup strategy is flawed and when images are moved around and older images replace newer images then they are not backed up. The upshot being the backup I was using to fix this was NEVER going to work. I got a clear view of this (in my mind) as there was no albino S. greshoffi.

I have (I think) a solution now that I've recovered a snapshot of the old server image files.

Leave it with me, I will try to get all the hybrids right first. The worst idea would be to fix it from the admin panel as it is only the image files that are wrong - the database is correct.

Cheers,

Jools

Well, if the captions are wrong, I'd worry the photo contributor is wrong too. Or not?

Besides that, yes, business as usual but I guess I'd stop and check things are OK after each change for the first few.

Cheers

I thought the same but all seems well as far as I know....more that some captions are just missing now not that they are in the wrong place, it is all good now.

Different issue

I get this when I try to upload an image no matter which avenue I use...I did try different images
No image uploaded? (problem might be moving img=`` from `/tmp`), or might also be invalid file type.

OK, so it's something intermittent and doesn't appear to be filesize. I've put more error checking in place so it can't break anything, so you're free to upload.

Error 1 is because the image file is too big. It may have worked on the old server as I'd figured out how to get around it. You have a PM...
