will baryancistrus interbreed?

Post by alleykat »

Hi all,

I currently have one l18/177 in one of my tanks and am considering the following;
if I would add for example some b. beggini, would they hybridize? the l18 is around
2inches in length, so still a juvi. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry as L18 does not breed in aquaria, its been done once or twice before in very large aquaria under very specific diet and water parameters.

Furthermore, B. beggini has not been bred very often in the aquarium either. A last point is that B. beggini might not be closely related to "true" Baryancistrus like Baryancistrus xanthellus.

I wouldn't be concerned.

I agree with Milton, B. beggini is not a Baryancistrus sensu stricto, and won´t interbreed with those who are. And even it would be, Baryancistrus are hard to breed and a crossbreed is very unlikely.
