L239 eggs

Post by johni »

Hello!

I keep these fish for 3 years now. They showed breeding behaviour in January 2012 but nothing happened.

Now I have approx. 15 eggs in a cave guarded by the male.

I am happy :d

Congrats. Good luck with the spawn. Keep us updated and remember to keep track of the parameters, etc. And if you can, take some pictures, everyone loves pictures!

Hello!

Sadly I have to write that today I found the cave being empty. The eggs are gone.
I hope I can make them spawn again soon.

Better luck next time Hannes.
Mine were never very good at keeping the eggs in the cave. The first time I actually located wigglers in the back of the tank.
If its a species only tank, make sure you have a good look all round the tank, just in case the eggs are somewhere.

Hello Geoff!

Yes it is a tank just housing 6x L239.
I will keep an eye on them ;)

And thanks for your information concerning the "fry raising period"

Lots of luck and enjoy the hobby!

Hello Johni and other 239 keepers

I was wondering if you could tell what size caves you have for your 239's and are they wood, slate or clay caves?

Just making plans for a group of these myself. So any pics of setup and advice would be great.

Many thanks

Hello!

There are about 10 clay caves in the tank and only one slate cave.
The eggs were layed into the slate cave.
The cave is about 12cm deep. The entrance measures 3,5cm x 2,5cm(high)

In this moment I do not have any pictures of the tank.
Get yourself some L239. It is a wonderful species.

I use a medium easter island head, lying on its "back"

their other choices are slate and clay, but this one is in the premium spot with current accross the face of the entrance.

Random website link to a picture of the easter island heads.

Please take pictures of the set up and the eggs now that they aren't with the male? It's terrific news of surviving fry!

Hi there!

The eggs were hatched in an incubator as the first batch (in December) was eaten by the male fish.
I know 5 fish from 18 eggs is not a high rate. Nevertheless I am happy. It was my first try with the incubator.

I hope I can raise all five.
@ Barbie: pictures coming tonight.

Cheers,
thanks Geoff!

Hi!

Yesterday I found new eggs (approx. 15)
Guarded by the same male in the same cave.

They are really busy for me at the moment :-BD

The 5 youngsters of the second batch are doing good.
