Size of Barayncistrus xanthellus...

Post by MatsP »

Do we know where 355mm is based on? The description shows a size of around 225mm as the largest specimen. DATZ says "over 20cm" for L177 and "over 30cm" for L018 - but both of those are TL measurements, which makes around 250mm quite plausible.

IIRC CSG size guide but I could be wrong, it does seem a little large? I've seen larger than 20cm SL individuals, but perhaps not larger than 25-28cm?

I have no proof so it does not do you any good but this nice duo from the Baltimore aquarium could have been that size, easily the largest I have seen.

And from your memory, how large are they in the picture?

Don't always trust my memory!...I would like to think they were 30 cm TL but not positive on that and sometimes the glass in public aquariums throws things off.

I think we should make it 240mm SL.
