Hard to see what you are talking about. Also, a lump and a hole are the opposites. Looks like a standard iridescent shark catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus: Common Name(s) Iridescent Shark, Iridescent Shark Catfish, Pla Sawai (Thai, Thai), Striped Catfish, Sutchi Catfish. Synonym(s) Helicophagus hypophthalmus, Pangasius hypophthalmus, Pangasius sutchi.
Some of the fish in this family have what's called a porus pectoralis, like in this fish Pangasius nasutus - see the photos - http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/spe ... es_id=1243 but I have never noticed it in iridescent sharks. Anyone?
It's not clear if this is what you are referring to anyway.

Re: marks on pangasius sutchi.
If it is the approximately oval-shaped light colored spot below the dorsal base in the middle of the body, then it is not a porus pectoralis. If the two features on each side are exactly the same shape, position, and color, then I'd worry less.
If not, could they be heater burns? What are your water parameters?
The fish has a nice full tummy and looks in good shape otherwise.

Maybe you were right, heater burns. One side has healed and the other is on the mend. Thanks. Chris

Glad to hear the fish is healing up. Have you made sure it cannot hide/get stuck behind the heater? Although, IDS is usually not a hider, they appear to rest sometimes and the small ones would seek a sheltered place for that.
