Bristlenose Plecos

Post by hdbikersbabe »

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to pick your brains. lol I purchased several BN plecos and I am concerned they are NOT what I was told. I am looking for help from the experts (which is why I'm here) :D

These two pictures were to be of a regular female BN

This one is to be a female green dragon BN. The lady I purchased them from swears up and down these two green dragons are a mated pair. I personally have never seen a BN female with bristles like this. She said she's had females that have full beards before.

This is the male green dragon, the other half to the above female.

The first fish looks like a clown pleco (Panaque maccus); the rest are BN Plecos. I'm not really sure what "green dragon" is, but I'd say that you definitely have a pair of BNs - mature females often have bristles around the end of their nose, but never up their face like a male.

yeah the first pic is not a BN pleco. second pic is a female BN pleco and the last two pics are males. the third pic has bristles up in the face area so not female. just a later developing male.

as mentioned they are not green dragons, just regular BNs. still really nice plecos. i used to breed them and am now keeping a pair of albinos that i raised from a spawn of browns.

I raise Albino and Browns and wanted to expand. We sell them to the LFS and can't keep them stocked so I was branching out. This is what I was to have purchased.

Needless to say I'm not very happy.

I thank you guys for all of your help.

from the ebay pics it looks like it might be a female but from your pics it looks like a male so it could be either one. I'd buy from aquabid and not ebay on more expensive plecs like this.

i am almost 100% those are not green dragon as advertised. the blurry photos just dramatize the greenish coloring of regular BNs. green dragons do not have spots like that.
