hybrids?

Post by Elwood »

I used to keep sterbai, weitzmani and axelrodi in the same tank without problems but now I got these young sterbai who get this band across the eye like axelrodi and weitzmani. Are them hybrids or is just a phase of growth?

Personally, I've never seen young sterbai with the stripe before, but it is conspicuous. Looks like someone in that tank has been putting their cloaca where it doesn't belong. :))

:)) Yes, this was my opinion too, but I heared that in no possible to have sterbai x axelrodi offspring so are them sterbai x weitzmani? Sounds weird...

Hi,

why shouldn't a hybrid between C. sterbai and C. axelrodi be possible ?!
We know already many cases of hybridisation in this genus even between members of different lineages and all three mentioned species belong to the same lineage.

Do you have any recent pics of the little chap ?!

I'm not sure that this is a hybrid at all. It's a long time ago that I kept C. sterbai and I didn't find any good pictures in this size.
But with quite a few species the small corys still have an eye mask that fades away when they grow.
In hybrids you usually see quite clearly the pattern of both parents.

Cheers,
