Re: Hypancistrus sp Quami ?
If you go to Cat-elog and click on any Hypancistrus and them do a search with the drop down box for Hypancistrus.... Hypancistrus Rio Guaviare is close to the bottom of the list and I like to start at the bottom instead of the top...…. the name is similar and they look very close to the same and they are from Columbia.

It could possibly be Hypancistrus sp. "Rio Cauame" from near Boa Vista, Brazil. It may have been smuggled out via Colombia, like a lot of Brazilian fish are.

Yes that looks about the same too. And the name is closer, phonetically.HaakonH wrote: ↑14 Jun 2018, 22:02It could possibly be Hypancistrus sp. "Rio Cauame" from near Boa Vista, Brazil. It may have been smuggled out via Colombia, like a lot of Brazilian fish are.

Currently, PlanetCatfish doesn't have any Hypans up in that area. I've added the Rio Cauame to our map, but so far the only catfishes I can document there ( and ) are not hypans.
Cheers, Eric

Re: Hypancistrus sp Quami ?
I have been waiting for confirmation on whether or not Rio Cauame is the true location or not for this Hypancistrus. So far I have only rumors from the importer to lean on. Until it's confirmed by a reliable source that the location is true, we can't publish it with an L-number. Whatever is the real location, the fish looks to be a large-growing representative of the H.debilittera group, judging by the pictures I have. And it also appears to have a variable pattern of short stripes and dots, but most individuals have dots on the head with a white band behind them:
