L306 breeding advice

Post by AmazonTank »

My colony of L306 were not breeding. Water was 76.
I raised water temperature to 79 & in 3 days I have 2 batches of eggs.
Anyone explain the phenomenon, I was thinking lower water temperature to trigger breeding.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated friends!

Hi Eric one of your videos showed a ziss breeder box that looked twice as large as the usual ones for sale, was that custom made?

Congratulations on your spawns!

No, it's a standard Ziss BL-2.

I chose it because it has a solid floor, which provides two benefits: 1) it prevents microworms from falling out of the box (a problem even with the fine mesh of the German breeder rings) and 2) when you drain the parents' tank for a water change, the BL-2 captures a small amount of water so that the babies don't lose all their water.

Cheers, Eric

Thanks so much I will definitely get some of those!
Looking for a ziss style that is huge for attaching to some of my larger tanks.
The tanklimate holes are to big.

I've got over 200 Auchenipterichthys coracoideus in my Ziss BL-2. The babies are getting big so I need to move them to a bigger home. I could just release the babies into a larger tank, but I really like the value of breeder boxes to allow me to concentrate feedings and not just throw food into a big tank, while at the same time benefitting from the stable water quality provided by a big tank to house the box.

I'm contemplating making a larger makeshift box like the BL-2 using a plastic shoe box and fine mesh, but I'll have to source the mesh.

Cheers, Eric

That sounds so sweet.
I been raising my babies from last year in a 40 gallon seaclear uniquarium.
Might just get a couple tanklimates and add some mesh to the holes.

Hope everyone is doing well thanks to all my friends with excellent advice!
L306 are doing excellent!
They sure grow slow but I just got a male with fry in a growout tank that was less than 2" tl I'm thinking there stacking up to be half the size of l397.
Anyone keep these cool l306 plecos would love to see pics & video channels!
