2 leopard frog's in same cave

Post by jd_7655 »

I have 5 leopard frogs in a 38 gallon aquarium which is 36"x12". I've had them for a year this month. I don't know what sex they are. I've been growing them out to try and breed them. Tonight I saw breeding behavior. 2 of them in the same cave. I don't have a lot of fish breeding experience but I've been keeping fish for 30 years. I bought a group of 5 juveniles on a whim. The past year I've just been letting them do their thing and feeding them. I haven't done a water change in 3 weeks.

The tank is bare bottom and I have a bunch of those ceramic plant spikes for caves. Tank temp is 82*f with a PH of 7.2. I do not have a test kit so I don't know the other parameters. The tank also has a bunch of Malaysian driftwood.

Where do I go from here to get them to breed? Do I need RO water?

Hi jd_7655,

Where do you go from here? I'd say just leave them alone for now. If you have a male and female in the cave (vs. two males fighting for the cave), they will either lay eggs or break up... if the latter, then you know they're at least slightly interested, so be patient. If they haven't laid eggs when they break up, do a water change. You shouldn't need RO although it might be helpful.

Good luck,
Eric
