Hi from Patagonia in Valdivia,
My children and I have a spotted Rafael adopted since 2020 so not sure how old he is. Last 3 months he is by himself in a 100 L tank because the other fish passed (platties, shorter lived).
Last weeks after a move we had temp fluctuations and he developed a skin issue, so not sure what it is. Its very clear in shape it mostly dissapeared after a very mild salt treatment but re appeared after a week. We greatly appreciate your suggestions, maybe a full on salt treatment? or meds?

Thanks so much!

Re: Spotted Rafael Catfish: Skin Issue
Hello Roxanna ( @waterland )
Welcome to PlanetCatfish.
About your raphael catfish, I watched the video and I see the big white patch on the animal's side. It's that what you're referring to? It looks to me as if that white patch is elevated and bumpy on its surface. Is that correct?
My first thought is that it's such a large area, this might be an injury. Is your aquarium heated? Could this be a heater burn mark?
Can you get other photos of the spot?
Thank you,
Eric

Re: Spotted Rafael Catfish: Skin Issue
Thanks so much Eric,
yes its the large white patch. I think you are absolutely right because it sometimes sleeps very close to the heater. The skin injury improved with the slight salt treatment and what is left is a very slight mark that i could only see at night with the flashlight. I dont have other photos, just the video, i will take a new one and share in you tube!
